Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-Zen on November 25, 2003, 07:46:49 am I suspect that I'm going to pass on this one simply due to the 67,000 key binds to control the jets. Perhaps I'm old fashioned but I don't think my walnet sized brain can handle that much information. What are the first impressions of it so far, especially FPS for Nvidia users?TX-ZenBlack 6
Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-Rahman on November 25, 2003, 08:11:07 am After initial testing and some formation flying with ECO.... I can report that the FPS are not as bad as I thought they would be... I'm getting like 32-47 ave frames per sec... I did bump a few things down before I even flew the game.... My cackpit reflections are turned off, water set to low instead of medium....etc... I read on the forums earlier what folks were doing to speed up frame rates and it did help. As Eco pointed out however...dispense a bunch of flares and frame rates drop to a crawl. I son't think Eco or I have a great video card... (I have an AMD XP3000+ barton, 512MB Ram, GEforce4 Ti4400 128MB. I suspect that those of you with higher ended cards will get much better performance... I'm pleased so far with the game....Lots of configuring... A note: The configuration is fairly simple...it just takes a little time. Eco and I spawned...landed and then took off together in some SU-27's...I should post some screen shots later when I get home this evening.... Oh...and there is no simple "refly" button that we could find... Was the first evening with it though...give us some time to check it out more... For folks in Houston... The EBGames in the Marque center right off I-10 and 610 had a few copies of the game onhand...

The thought of seeing an F15 and an SU27 in TX colors would seal my doom for sure. And the A10 with teeth. And the Mig29, that would look good too. And the Su25, always been a favorite of mine. And a 1975 VW Beetle...bet that would look righteous in TX colors. In fact, I bet anything that moves would look good in the TX scheme. Hmmm....must test this theory....Here kitty kitty kitty.........TX-ZenBlack 6
Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-Copper on November 25, 2003, 01:07:18 pm Does the Su 27, Su 33 and Fulcrum have the infra red tracking in the game? If so, this would give it a nice edge, as you have no way of knowing your being tracked with ir. Might buy it on the way to work today....just pop it on the ol credit card, and seeing as its close to maxed....just pay that debt off with the line of credit......simple.
Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-EcoDragon on November 25, 2003, 02:29:31 pm Yeah, there are some things that take some figuring out, as the manual doesn't look too helpful (not that I read it or anything). The FPS aren't bad, it feels much like FB on my machine, but fps avg a little lower becasue there are so many other aircraft on the map, and MUCH more detailed terrain, cities, settlements and roads. . . and as Rah said. . the missle, chaff/flare smoke and light hits FPS hat depending on settings. . .you have the ability to dispense hundreds of these and I managed, from an externals view looking back, to get my fps to hit 2.BUt that is a settings issue, and normally your not looking backwards, and from a distance the FPS effect is minimal.I asked about skins a long time ago, and the answer was "sorry, we won't be doing that" now that could always change, and someone may simply find a way in, like they did with Jane's, but I wouldn't bank on it.Rahman and I were flying in Russian Knights paint. . . that was cool, he is 2, im 1 so at least we got that! ;-)S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX Squadron XO
Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: Seeker on November 25, 2003, 02:31:35 pm It appears that you can create custom skins. Although it is not as straight forward as FB. You need to install a plugin (to what I don't know) to read the files. From lomac forum (where guy had made a custom Syrian fighter skin):

Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: Seeker on November 25, 2003, 03:22:20 pm Browsing the checksix forum, I found this 10 page thread that details how to modify textures. It appears (from translations) that it is more than difficult to do and requires going into the coding. But, it is possible, cause they have a custom skin available for download there. Here's the thread if anyone knows french very well, or wants to struggle through translations. http://www.checksix-forums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25716I think, and hope, this will be posted sometime soon in the lockon ubi forum in a clear step-by-step process. Or, changes with the patch. But, for now, it looks like skinning is not really feasible without some DX SDK developer kits and such. Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-Zen on November 26, 2003, 10:41:30 am I thought perhaps that I might get a gift copy of this, but it turns out that m beloved apparently has no sympathy for my flightsim addiction. (can't say I blame her)Last night Emu was talking about how he was bummed out because he couldn't acquire a copy of it and then (bathed in a radiant light from heaven) his own beloved walked in and handed him a copy. My darling was sitting there listening and had a thoughtful look on her face and I thought to myself...'hmmm, maybe this will happen to me also' but then when I gave her a little look, she said "Thats very sweet, she is so nice to Eco". My heart soared until she said:"The answer is no"Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!!!!So no lomac for me, at least for the next couple of weeks. I can't blame my beloved Punjabi though, she has put up with a lot of FB seperation over the years, this would probably be too much to ask. TX-ZenBlack 6

Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-Copper on November 26, 2003, 01:07:18 pm Well....i rushed out like a eager little future jet ace, bought the game, got home...opened my new game up, discoverd no over lay, and that i am simply overwhelmed by all the functions/settings......take a week you say to get the settings and hang of this?? Try a month...maybe 2.....who knows.I'll dabble in it for now....maybe Eco or Rahman can help me out on comms sometime down the road, but for now, im going to try it in stages.
Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-EcoDragon on November 26, 2003, 02:21:44 pm Yes, the first batch had no keycard included. . . there is a PDF to download and print, and also apparently UBI will send them to you with an email request through their FAQ pages. This is stated in an earlier post I made, and has the links. And yes, I have owned most all the big sims out there, including many of the jet combat sims, and while the complexity isn't much higher, the fact that it ALL must be done with either key commands or joystick inputs makes you have to remember off the wall things for just about everything. That said, there are some simplifications, such as easy radar, lock on nearest target etc, though I haven't tried these. If anyone has this and doesn't know how to get started, just get on comms, we have a lo-mac channel, and of course there are always some TX'ers willing to lend a hand. This sim is making me wonder how many controllers it will recognize. . . I need more buttons!!! (um. . lots!!)BTW:I had my driver level graphics quality set to high performance, and my textures set to best performance on the driver tab, this made my textures look blurry but my fps weren't too great in the campaign, I had this idea to see how BAD I could make my FPS, which I have found to be a wise idea witha new software, and I discovered that teh driver level changes do not really effect gameplay FPS at all, but setting them to higher visual quality makes it look SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much better!!!The lighting effects are second to absolutelly none, and the aircraft and, cockpits and pilots are very detailed. I still get low FPS in the campaign, but now it just looks fantastic. The Moral is, the FPS hard hitters don't appear to be the textures, so you may as well, let them stay a little higher quality. (I am talking about in the display properties tab, though the ingame setting has the same impact, however max quality in game will not overide low quality on the driver)If this makes no sense to you, then that is fine, becasue your driver level settings are probably default and therfore you don't need to change them, though you could likely get a little better image quality if you increased them.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX Squadron XO
Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: TX-Deck on November 26, 2003, 03:16:59 pm More buttons say you? This got me thinking..... there are all these gadjets out there for games. They have a bunch of keys. Why not just add another keyboard?Sooo.....Reached over on the shelf, plugged in a 2nd USB keyboard, and it was instantly recognized and worked in conjunction with the existing PS2 keyboard.Problem is.... how will LOMAC tell which keyboard is being used?I knew it couldn't be that easy.... lolYou might research this instead:http://us.thrustmaster.com/products/tactical.php3?skin=TacticalTX-Deck out.

Title: Re: LOMAC Post by: Seeker on November 26, 2003, 04:58:23 pm Yep, this game is frustratingly difficult to learn. Will take quite some time to be able to dogfight with any kind of confidence. I'm finding my patience wearing thin. Guess I should try the easy radar thingy first. And, maybe try the training missions, lol. One good thing is, I'm finally glad I got a new pc. It looks great and quite flyable with most settings maxed.I did find on the web a nifty one-page keycard with the major commands on it. It's a word doc, so it's modifiable--and there's room to add your joystick assignments if you make the font a bit smaller. Here it is:
(http://"pop_download.asp?mode=Edit&dir=TX-Seeker&file=1410")Also, someone has started a document that details how to modify textures (although briefly). Hopefully, this makes sense to someone and we can someday have custom skins? Being as that I spent most of my time through the years in these complex command jets , I expect Ill feel right at home.
