Title: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: TX-CUDA on December 04, 2003, 12:15:11 pm I know that I would prefer that this forum concentrate on making maps for FB but I could not pass this up as it is a very good site to check out if you are interested in the making of maps for Call of Duty. Several good tutorials on the different aspects of map making using the heavily modded Quake engine that CoD runs on. Well worth the time if you ever wondered how to make a map for this game.

I wonder if larger maps can be created....the maps for multiplayer that are available now are too small in my opinion... Too much mindless grenade throwing and bullet-hosing...

Don't know if I will be involved with making maps myself, but I'm sure that there will be many people out there cranking them out. Safe bet they feel the same as we do.TX-Deck out.

And who else better to make maps than an architect who specializes in historic buildings..... In the future Look for Kingsnake's Concentration Compound, Zeplin hanger, Zenstadt, Ramanheim, Ecowald, and more. Oh lest I forget, Albert Spear's Germania, the future vision of a world capitol for the fatherland...

My question is still do you guys think the game is worth spending any time on? I haven't played it or the demo yet, not sure if I'm going to get it. I bought lockon but haven't installed that yet either, so it's hard for me to say if I'll play CoD at all.TX-ZenBlack 6

Title: Re: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: Seeker on December 05, 2003, 10:05:32 pm Hmm, I may be in over my head here. All I have is photoshop, GMAX, and the Quake engine stuff that was posted. Is it possible to download models and textures and compile it in the engine without having to actually create anything? And can you grab some of the models and buildings and such that are already in the game and use those?
![]() Title: Re: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: TX-Kingsnake on December 05, 2003, 10:09:12 pm It did the same thing to me after a reinstall. It is looking for a file. Under file type look at the 2 options for file types, then browse the directories untill you find something like this C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\Tools\bini think you point it to cod.qe4

![]() Title: Re: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: TX-Kingsnake on December 05, 2003, 10:15:04 pm Seeker there are plenty of stock textures in the CoDradiant engine that are stock with the game. I also believe you can d/l plenty of premade models. Monguse, I noticed that there is a program I got called milkshape, it will import 3d-studio asci, and from there you export to a file format for CoDradiant. I don't know the implications of a non-native file format and the ramifications of mesh triangulation etc.
![]() Title: Re: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: Monguse on December 06, 2003, 07:26:29 am A note on File Formats:AutoCAD can export DXF. It can also export 3DS (3DStudio) files from ASIC (solid) objects. The triangulation of flat planes and tesselations of complex arcs may pose a problem. However, by using 3DStudio you can optimize triangulation and tesselations. I also have in my box of goodies a 3Dmesh software called Sketch UP http://www.sketchup.com/. Its an awsome piece of architectural modeling sotware. It allows one to define basic 3Dmeshes extremely easy. From what I can see between us all we have enough software to create anything. So it's a matter of figuring out the best approach. Can't wait to join you guys on COD and kick some major butt. I'm getting COD as soon as the wallet allows. S~TX-MonguseGreen 2
Title: Re: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: TX-CUDA on December 06, 2003, 09:10:15 pm ...damn, I can just see it now....the Alamo at one end of the map and the Astrodome at the other..Joe's BBQ somewhere in between with Buffalo Bayou (in Houston) running thru the middle somewhere. Title: Re: Call of Duty Map Makers Site Post by: TX-CUDA on December 07, 2003, 11:37:38 am ..One thing I noticed in map I was on until midnight or so with some other guys was that the maps need a spot where there are MG42's( the fixed MG's) set up with overlapping fields of fire. On the Berlin map it seems that there are no MG's in or near the Reichstag. As the Russians spawn is off to the right(if you are on the roof) and they seem to come out of the woodwork from that area I'd like to see some last ditch defenses set up from spots that would allow for the MG's to HAVE to be taken out before any other frontal assaults could take place......just an idea....Vodka, Sterno, and Nitrous Oxide a happy Bomber Pilot make!TX-CUDA on UBITX-CUDA on HyperLobby
