Title: ServerHost-eliminate the lagger/speeder phenomenon
Post by: TX-EcoDragon on May 11, 2004, 01:29:03 pm
First of all, make a copy of your original conf.ini in your FB folder. This can be found here by default: C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles. I usually make a new folder (right mouse click in the window, go to "new" then "Folder") and name it Orig conf etc. so it is clear what is what.

Anyway, once this is done open the conf.ini that is in the FB folder and go down to the section that starts with [net] it should look sorta like this:

[NET]
speed=5000
routeChannels=0
serverChannels=7
localPort=21000
remotePort=21000
SkinDownload=1
serverName=Seelowe
serverDescription=
remoteHost=
localHost=
socksHost=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1
checkClientTimeSpeed=1

You may have different values here, there is some debate about the connection speed setings ( after testing I agree that setting the network settings to 56k or even less is a good idea for all parties despite actual connection type) But please change/verify that the entry below has these values in it.

checkServerTimeSpeed=1
checkClientTimeSpeed=1

right after that, add this EXACTLY (even the goofy spelling):

checkTimeSpeedDifferense=0.04
checkTimeSpeedInterval=4

this will change the server side tolerance for lag/speeder use and make it much less likely that those sorts of gamers will be rewarded for their behaviours. More importantly, this seems to keep the goofed connections in line too, and a server with high pings and tons of boats and baloons and ship aa still seems to run well!

The value above it what I have been testing, and what I have seen on a few servers that seem to be lenient enough for most players, but tight enough to keep out or reform the riffraff.

When you join a server you will see the values the host has set in the chat window, this one will say 4sec 4%. instead of the awful 17sec 20% that permits the server machine and the client machine to operate are very different speeds (ie enables the use of the speeder/slower proggies)

Verify that your conf.ini  looks more or less like this, and then save and test it out:

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

[NET]
speed=5000
routeChannels=0
serverChannels=7
localPort=21000
remotePort=21000
SkinDownload=1
serverName=
serverDescription=
remoteHost=
localHost=
socksHost=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1
checkClientTimeSpeed=1
checkTimeSpeedDifferense=0.04
checkTimeSpeedInterval=4

[MaxLag]
farMaxLagTime=8.0
nearMaxLagTime=2.0
cheaterWarningDelay=3.0
cheaterWarningNum=2

....thanks TX-Ecodragon, I was listening on comms last night and didn't catch the full run-down you were telling TX-Ersk and am really glad you posted it via the website. I have implemented the changes to the .ini file and will try it out tonight when I host.If anyone makes any changes to the example file that was in the above post and notices any improvement in server performance BE SURE AND POST what changes you made so the rest of us that host via Ubi and HyperLobby can implement those changes!   Until we get the DED server from Ubi it looks like we can tweak the settings to give any and all who join our servers (TX) a good gaming experience with our machines....until the OC3 comes back online in all it's glory!TX-Cuda...one Shot...One KILL!

....rgr Rahman, I just got in from church and was getting ready to send it. I'll try the server out in just a bit. What is the setting(s) to autokick high pings? I have the setup just as Eco posted and it's not kicking the high pingers when they join. I also want to change the ICON settings/distance but can find that later...TX-Cuda"A smoking plane is a sign of a good cook"
