Title: IL-2 FB/AOE Dedicated Server
Post by: BobBtheMan on October 29, 2004, 01:36:23 pm
Hello,

I am setting up a IL-2 FB dedicated server for our clan (alliedairbornearmy) and am pretty close to having it up and running.  I have a few questions that I thought I could get some help with on this forum.

I have a dedicated server in a data center that I have full access to.  It now has a full copy of IL-2 FB/AOE patched up to date.  I have all the Windows dedicated server files and have followed the guide by WildHoney to set this server up with HyperLobby.  I can start the server, host a game and then also connect to that game thru HyperLobby.  So far so good.  I do, however, have to use the FBServer.exe on my client to connect.  Not a problem as that can be given to the clan members and setup.

Now, here are my questions:

1.  I have tried to change to a coop mission in the server.cmd file and continue to receive "no map in mission file" errors.  I can load dogfight missions all day long but not coop.

2.  I am interested in setting up a mission rotation but am not sure how to do that in the server.cmd.  I currently run several Call of Duty servers and have some pretty extensive map rotations.  Is there a way to do this in IL-2?

3.  Is there any kine of remote management tool out there?  There will be several "admins" that will want access to the server so it would be nice to have a tool for them to use like in CoD - RCon4COD type of tool.

thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Sorry for the late reply. . I missed this post somehow.1. The Dedicated does not support Cooperative play, I am sorry to say, DF only, maybe the PF dedicated wil change this, I don't expect that though.2.You won't use the server.cmd for map rotations. Instead you must use a scripting program such as FB Daemon, available here: http://www.greatergreen.com/il2/fbd2/Once you get that you will simply create a mapcycle.txt file and list the mission nakes you want loaded, or you can code into teh missions themselves victory requirements for each army (red/blue) and have each of those events lead to a unique map after that.3. FBD will do this also, the other members of your group can log in once in the server and make changes to things such as what map is running, they can kick, ban, or even gag troublemakers (that's a fun one). This won't allow these users any control over the machine itself though, so it is a reasonable way to hand out admin rights to the members without fears of server security. Just use caution when setting up the login info for your admins. . you don't want them transmitting over teh airways what your server PW is or all the members of your server will be admins. . that's just not a good idea  ;-)S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO
