Title: TX Squadron Competition
Post by: TX-Zen on January 09, 2005, 04:34:03 am
Gentlemen,

Gozr has invited us to a server vs server team competition. Each major server from the community will field a squad (size undetermined at this time) and compete for top honors.  If you're interested, please respond here so we can begin assembling our team.

No word yet on plane sets but I believe we will be using TUSA competition rules.

This IS the International Competitions MapI've uploaded a picture of this map, used several weeks ago in a TUSA vs Germany scrim. There are multiple objectives.  The team which completes three of the 5 objectives first, wins. The general idea here is that the CV's (Aircraft Carrier's) contain some of the more high performance aircraft, and if a team wants access to those A/C (late war P-51D, Ki-84-1b, La-7, 109-K4) then they will be more inclined to protect the CV's and attack the enemies.I have uploaded this mission to TX uploads section under "Gunslingers-OC3"low_us_ger.PROPERTIES and low_us_ger.MISBlack 2

Ground Targets: Matilda tanks on both sides.  The Matilda is a slow, heavily armoured tank. Blue tanks close upThe Matilida's are situated for both Red and Blue, at a point about equidistant from both home land airfield and CV locationShipboard Flak has been turned way down.  It's there, but not the wicked 3.5" inch stuff. Here is the blue base.....Sun is from the east at 7:00 AM...Black 2

.....map certainly looks interesting. I have a question though on the positions of the two DD's protecting the CV's. What are the settings for defensive guns on the vessels? If memory serves me the guns on the carriers alone would be enough to deter strikes by incoming enemy aircraft. With the patches has this been toned down?TX-CudaMinister of Information

Gozr is aiming for a 15 vs 15 competition at this point and I plan on initiating training in preparation. So far this is our roster:TX-ZenTX-SputnikTX-RazorTX-EcoDragonTX-GunslingerTX-WarhawkProbables:TX-Monguse TX-Bomblast TX-Deck TX-RahmanTX-Ersky TX-Copper Possibles:PBNA-BoosherI would like to secure a training commitment of 1-2 nights a week for tactics and coordination before fully committing TX Squadron to this event, but the entire group need not be there every time and we can refine the times as we proceed. Please respond if you feel you can commit to the training time, not only would I like to participate but I would like TX to kick the holy crap out of the competition.  We will be facing some of the best pilots in the community so it's best not to walk in unprepared. I'm thinking of tuesdays and thursdays for the competition training, most likely around 8 CST. I'm open to suggestions so please post your availability and we can hammer out a more concrete time. I've also contacted STS Predator about a scrim and he's interested, so early next week we are going to start making a plan for the scrim date. On the tactics level, first thing I've noticed is that as a group we have a tendancy to get drawn down into low altitude engagements. This is fairly normal but we have to take care to mind our energy and climb whenever possible if not directly engaged.  It's one thing to be in the saddle and shooting, its another thing to be engaged with him and constantly moving for a shot, which tends to lower your SA and force you lower and lower. We do best when we take one shot and climb, letting our wingmen keep pressure on the enemy by repeated attacks instead of getting engaged. Keep that in mind, it pays off when we adhere to proper tactics. Two parts of the training will focus on defensive moves as well as training for group tactics. Gunslinger will be recording the tracks and we will do a step by step reconstruction to highlight areas where we did well and where we did not. Post your availabililty for training,  I'd like to get this in motion.

Finally got a job now(Department of fisheries and oceans, yay!), so hey guys that new mic should only be a week or so away!I will save up for a whole new machine longterm. Those dreams of perfect mode are not far off.    Thursdays training should be fine for me, Tuesdays I play beer league hockey, but I will try my best to catch up on what you guys were going over on the days I am absent from training.

Final roster needs to be submitted by 02FEB05. Currently we have:TX-ZenTX-SputnikTX-RazorTX-EcoDragonTX-GunslingerTX-BomblastTX-DeckTX-RahmanTX-ErskyTX-Copper TX-Warhawk???But frankly I haven't see all of us online enough for training to be sure that we can count on that lineup.  I have a feeling that come game day (which is still undetermined, but within a couple weeks from what Gozr says) we will have 5-6 pilots show up and have to forfeit for lack of numbers. I guess before we go through all that, I would like to ask again for SOLID participication. If you can make one of the two training sessions every week and are sure of it,  then please restate your availability. I've also asked STS Predator if they would be willing to add an element to our lineup and fly alongside of us during the competition. Zen

...Zen and you others that have been flying on a regular basis in my absence......You can count on me being there for the next few training days......and if I can re-hone my somewhat limited skills that I had to start out with to a level that is not an embarrasment to the squad I would be more than happy to fly. .....it seems that every time I get on HL and comms to see if I can try and get back into flying my fighter bait (Bombers) on the TX-OC3 there are no other TX members on HL. The last three days I have blown the heck out of the RED targets all by my lonesome. It sure would be nice if some of you guys would at the least fly against me so I could see if my evasive manuevers(sp) still worked!TX-CudaMinister of Information

What do you guys think of a thursday night training mission each week for both squads? My thinking is that we need to familiarize ourselves with the mission, the map and how our sections will interact. As a preliminary, I think each squad will be on seperate comms with Pred and I set to switch channels to either side as needed. Also, I'm partial to the idea of giving those who attend training most consistently first crack at the A list to participate with everyone else in order for reserve slots....any thoughts on this from anyone? Deck had mentioned this a number of years ago when his old TFC squad had matches to play and I think it has merit to encourage training participation.I want to win this match and I want to win big...to do this we need to make the effort  to attend training and work together as a group. I think we have a great dynamic and energy going for us right now and it's time to take advantage of that....but to be successful each of us must make the effort to do this and do it right. This is our time to reestablish our presence in the community. Lets make it happen. Zen

Life is good, TX is great and I'll be home Friday afternoon.I agree with the training participation/competition slot idea.  Pilots that make the effort to come to practice should get higher consideration during "Game Day" than those that don't.Zen, I'm glad you and Mrs Zen got your move over with!  Hope we can fly this weekend!COPPER!  I think the best news I've heard in a long time is that you're getting off the "graveyard shift".  I really miss flying with you.  IMHO, you're one of the best pilots on our team and we are diminished without you!TX-FISH!   TX-FISH!  ABSOLUTLEY FRICKIN AWESOME..Black 2
