Title: 2 more hours in N223NH Post by: LW_Blue-Max on February 26, 2006, 11:15:47 am The flight was great Jesse (My Instuctor) briefed me on some of the stuff we were going to review and some new stuff we would be working on, We checked the weather. Cloudy, Wind NNW 12 mph, Temp 63 F, Visibility 10 miles. We preflighted N223NH (Took about 25 min.) Then we got strapped in & Fired her up. I called MQY ground to get clearance to rwy 23, got clearance, Taxied out to do the engine run-up, Then taxied to the runway. I called the tower to get clearance for take off departing to the east. (I think the climax of the flightgasims I get are when you take-off and land) We took off and rolled out to the east heading for Nashville Speedway to do my training. We worked on steep climbs, coordinated "S" turns, Decents, Climbs, Slow turns, Power off stalls and recovery and emergency procedures (basically looking for a nice spot to land in the event of a engine failure :) No big deal for the Da-20 because with no engine it's best glide speed is 53 mph w/ full flaps. We called MQY tower once again for clearance for 2 touch-n-goes (which were perfect I might add lol) Then we landed. Like I said It was a great flight and I'm looking forward to many more. I guess you are loving all that glass around you in those DAs, sure beats the crap out of a 152 eh? This weekend turned ugly so so no flying for me and my mentee Bryce. . . I'm glad that someone got some!! ;-)Those Katanas are kinda like the Ta-152. . .big long glider wings. . . we should get one for Zen in TX-Camo. Does the Katana POH really suggest using flaps for best glide?S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO
Title: Re: 2 more hours in N223NH Post by: TX-EcoDragon on February 27, 2006, 05:13:00 pm I see 70 KIAS clean for best Glide. It would be interesting to hear what descent rate you are indicating in the Katana once stabilized at power off best glide. Speaking of DA20 POH's here is a little online checklist for the aircraft:http://www.flightdiscovery.com/download/DA20chek.pdfS!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO
Title: Re: 2 more hours in N223NH Post by: TX-Kingsnake on February 28, 2006, 01:39:49 am The katana looks sleek with the glider wings and glass canopy. I would like to try one for my next lesson. The 152 was too small for me and the 172 was adequate. I wasn't comfortable until I classed up to the 182. The katana looks as if it has a better performance envelope than a 172. In the katana I imagine there is more of an experience of being in the sky as opposed to an above wing. How does it handle compared to a 172 where banking feels like the plane is pivoting above, does the katana pivot lower?TX-Kingsnake

The only thing I've flown so far is the Katana, I don't really want to start transitioning to other aircraft till I get the basics down lol
