Post by: TX-Zen on March 14, 2006, 03:13:16 pm
I heard you can drive tanks in battlefield 2, is this true?

If so, what are they like anyway (screenshots if you got em)

THere is a multiplayer demo available, I have it. . .yes, you can drive tanks, but it's typical first person shooter stuff where you control it with keyboard, forward backward left right and the mouse controls the turret, left click fires canon right fires MG. Little dudes with wrench icons can repair you, little dudes with other icons can give you ammo, and littl emdic dudes can make you feel better. I don't think I'd call it a simulation. But it's kinda fun anyway. There are aircraft and boats to control too. . .the aircraft are so awful I don'tbother with them at all.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

Zen, the graphics, imho, in BF2 are superb.  The sound of the M1A1 is awesome.  They have recoil, everything, but like Eco said, it isn't an elaborate control type game.  It is a team oriented game, online play is awesome, but everything kinda dumbed down.  I love it, and im going to go out and buy the Euro Bonus pack on payday.  Believe Gunslinger plays as well.Give er a try (the demo will blow for online, as no one plays the demo anymore).  Would love to hook up with you guys sometime playing this game.S~

Count me in as well...Have been sick the past few days or so but am feeling a bit better.  Will grab the demo tonight...You know Zen...If you wanna command huge tank brigades...  WWIIOnline is the place to be (the new variant is known as Battlefield Europe).  I think I'm entitled to a demo key to hand off to a friend...  Lemme check.  WWII Tanks....although...I play Allieds and I'm pretty sure you would prefer to play Axis...Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"

I played the demo for an hour or so last night and wasn't overly impressed...but it was fun overall. Graphics are pretty good and the game play is about the same as black hawk down, maybe a little slower in some ways. Didn't get to drive a tank, but I did headshot a lot of tank commanders (talk about canabalism lol). Had a good time with the dragunov sniper rifle, didn't mess around with medics or other stuff all that much. On the whole I wouldn't buy this game on my own, but if you guys play I think I could make the purchase and dabble here and there with it online. We used to kick some serious tail in the black hawk down demo, so this would probably be fun. Rah, yes actually I've been meaning to try out ww2 online again, I think you were the one telling me they have added the Tiger I to the game (and yes, that means I'm going german).  I find lately the idea of online tanking is getting more appealing despite how silly most of these games are, but I believe I can put realism aside and enjoy them for what they are. In anycase most of these games are really all about playing alongside other TXers, so I think I'll see whats cooking with WW2 online too. Anyone up for some tank platoon semi sorta tactics?Zen

Zen,          Yes they've added the Tiger recently...  However, it's a later in the war kinda thing just like the Stuarts and Shermans are for the Allied side.  It's a tank that you get after the campaign progresses.  Each side starts off with older tanks/atguns/aircraft/etc at the beginning of the campaign and progresses as the campaign does.  You can hamper a side's progress by bombing their factories.          Damn'd awesome in the fact though that when you kill a tank or whatever online...it's actually someone and not AI.  Same goes for attacks from fighter or bomber aircraft...  While the flight models are no where near Oleg's....it's awesome to be able to bomb live tanks and strafe live people on the ground.  I once was involved in a 75+ bomber formation going to bomb the German factories...awesome!Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"

Call of Duty 2 has plenty of tanks. After the tophat I flank the jerries where the armour is weakest. Zen is qualified to take us across Nord Afrika. WWII online is very involved. Not as intense for all out combat as COD2.

Wow,Sorry I missed this thread.  I've been out on a very brutal travel schedule this week (like 8 flights in 3 days). Anyway, I just got a chance to check in and saw this. There are two upgrades for BF2:"Special Forces" which adds more maps, weapons, night fighting (LLTV googles) and specops gear like grappling lines, tear gas, flashbangs and zip lines.and"Euro Forces" which I just downloaded a played tonight for a while.  This is THE BF2 Tanker upgrade.  It's only 10 dollars, and you can have this upgrade without the Special Forces upgrade.Besides more tanks weapons and helos, the maps are LARGE and limited to 32 players. This makes the tank stuff much, much better than I've ever seen it in this game.  For the first time I'm seeing squads of tanks and long range shooting.I'll admit, it's not a sim.  But it is great for team playing and a lot of fun. This is good team oriented, mindless fun that I don't have to get too serious about.Thats what I need in my life right now,  more fun and less grief.I use two handles in BF2 "MG151/20" and "TXGun".I'd love to play with any of you folks some night.S~GunnyBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

.....I might pick up BF2 since I am getting pretty tired of waiting for the upgrade/patch and the Radient to be released for COD2. I'll look for you guys after I get it loaded. I might also recommend that Ya'll grab a copy of XFIRE as it is the easiest way to see where your friends are playing and what they are playing. My XFIRE handle is txcuda340.TX-CudaMinister of Information

Been playing the demo alot in the past 2 weeks and I have to say overall I am impressed. Naturally the game is arcadey when it comes to vehicles but they seem well balanced relative to each other and I've even grown to enjoy the tanks amazingly enough. The infantry combat is similar to Blackhawk Down, I like the pace of BF2 and in particular the squad aspect of it. They have some handy tools built in that make it easy to stay coordinated. One thing, definately sick of the Oman map. Guess it's time to buy the damn game. I can't seem to find the full version of the game for less than 40 bucks...is it still that popular? Anyone know of any deals on it?Zen

Zen,           I couldn't find it for less than $46 online and $49 locally in stores.  As a matter of fact, I had a tough time finding it in the stores.  I bought the last copy that CompUSA in the Galleria had.  I didn't look at the Best Buy next to you...  Fun game though Join our TS if you happen to be playing!!  Would love some killbot'n!  Also, install Xfire and add 12thRahman as a friend...makes it easy to join the same game...Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"

Well last night I spent the better part of 3 hours installing, patching and facking around with gamespy, as well as getting the Euro pack. Only played a couple of online games and instantly noticed the proliferation of amped up gyropeds that kill you instantly every time they see you, plus the stunning amount of spawn campers. Egad, last night was a chore lol. I might be on later this evening after dinner and a movie and I'll try to jack around with Xfire, which I don't think I've heard of. I did notice on one map they actually had an Mi24 HIND which is my favorite warsaw pact helicopter and a whole bunch of chinese vehicles, one of which appears to have a gatling gun...whoa, devastating! Most exciting for me is that I finally bought a true gaming mouse...the RazorUSA Copperhead. I must say that while I don't know about all the gee whiz advertising features they claim, the speed and precision is nothing like I've ever used and it feels great. I'd noticed I had been having real problems controlling the choppers in the demo and this mouse has helped a lot, as well as for rapid turret traverse of the various armored vehicles. I don't know if its worth 69 bucks, but I like it so far and it's made BF2 a lot more fun. See you guys tonight hopefully, Zen
