Post by: TX-ScubaSteve on July 28, 2006, 07:54:01 am When I was in high school in the late 80's, an F-15 mechanic friend of mine based in Germany sent me pictures of that incident. I've been an F-15 fan ever since... well, that and also because I also managed to have an F-15 simulator for the Commodore 64 which I played on a black/white TV (one of the few TV's in the entire country). It was my friend's opinion, that what helped a lot was also the onboard computers that automatically deflect remaining control surfaces in such a way to compensate for any control surfaces it senses are missing... though being a super pilot I'm sure also helps--with a nerve to hit afterburner instead of ejecting, while spiraling out of control (initially) after a collision. He also told me that even though it had been reported as a collision, the wing was actually taken off by a "friendly" missile. Not sure why a press release would try to hide that aspect if that was really true, other than the IAF was supposed to be more embarrassed to report having a plane hit by friendly fire vs. a collision, during training... Either way--a collision was still involved. LOL.Anyway, that's really cool to actually hear the description of what happened straight from the horses mouth!TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4
