Hey guys.  S!Did anyone preorder the DVD?If you did, who did you preorder from?  Couple of options available.I can't decide if I should just wait for the download options which should be available next week - or preorder from Europe. It seems to me that the d/l could take care of the "immediate gratification" part and perhaps on US release local stores might carry the DVD sometime after Xmas. Thanks,GunnyBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

Gunslinger, what options for backup do you have if you download it? Remember the boonty box pe2 patch? WTF good is that after a reformat?Cuda, I am looking at my row of boxes on my shelf wondering what to do. I reformatted and I am looking at a stack of disks and patches, which would take a very long time to install. My only point of angst, with an otherwise superb sim, is one of legacy. With the complicated installation of various disks / patches and the undisclosed secret location of a cult like congregation known as HL, I wonder how new Luftwaffers make their way in to the club. This DVD should take care of that. If I can install and go then I will be happy to wait for US delivery. Have you ever gone to the store and found it sold out on the release date?

Good point, King......  Have good backup solution, though.  Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly, I'm going to pick up a couple of those DVD's to give to friends.  The patching + version thing is daunting to newcomers.S~ and Warm RegardsGBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

I've had my order cancelled two times from GoGamer. . .maybe the third time is the charm. . .edit: cancelled again, I had to call GoGamer and have them enter it manuallyedit again: it wasn't gogamer's fault, Davis has changed the zip code for my area and didn't feel the need to tell us.  Jason at GoGamer has worked hard at resolving this though, and has expedited shipping to make up for the repeated cancellations of my order even though it wasn't GoGamer's fault.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

Just ordered my copy today.  I'm looking forward to shooting you guys down in the near future, now that my computer has a new lease on life!  I finally took Eco's suggestion that it's generally not a good idea to run one's obsolete onboard video card simultaneosly with an add-on card.  I figured that since the games I use are "only" using the PCI-e card... it didn't really matter... Well, a couple days ago, I disabled my onboard video, and WOW... FSX and IL-2's frame rates have more than DOUBLED!!!--even my load times on FSX (which often took over 3 minutes) takes less than 30 seconds now!  So, thanks Eco once again for some good advise.I've also ordered the Matrox Tripple Head thingy... next on my list is to actually get that TrackIR thing... and then maybe some decent monitors...TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

I'd be interested to know what the glide ratio is... I bet that Lerche has the deadstick performance of an aerodynamic rock?  Then again.. perhaps it can autorotate--nothing quite so counter-training, than to pull the nose UP, when the engine(s) fail...What do you mean Gunslinger, that we'll never see it on a server?  Is this an aircraft addition that can only be played on single missions?TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

Glad to hear that you guys have it already! I am moving just up the road to Dickinson the first week of January and once I get moved in...get some new furniture...etc. I plan on either picking it up or ordering it. I've managed to build a pretty potent stash in the glass water bottle with funds for a new MOBO/CHIPSET/Vidcard/ combination if I can build it for under two grand but CudaJR talked me in to waiting until after the move. Hopefully I'll be able to join Ya'll on the "BANNED PLANES SERVER" in a relatively short time!TX-CudaMinister of Information

I just got my copy yesterday!  However, haven't tried installing it yet, as my computer system is still in dissarray as I try to salvage my TH2Go configuration.  Thinking of experimenting with a GeForce card, and then deciding whether to return it or not.  But, might just revert to my original setup so I can fly with you guys over the weekend...TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

Any advice on video settings for 1946?  Especially with an 8800GTX?I thought my graphics didn't look all that great, and realized that stencil buffer had been turned off by my TrippleHead2Go adapter software that's supposed to autoconfigure various games/applications; which in turn seemed to limit me from selecting "perfect" for terrain.  I realize now all I should have done is manually put in the resolution in the conf.ini file myself.I went back with "setup" and am using OpenGL... is that still generally better than DirectX?For video settings, I went "custom", and set mipmap to "anisotropic", "none" for texture compression, and checked all the check boxes below that except of course "disable all"I set water=4 and forest=3 (the latter I had never tried before) in the conf.ini file manually.Water=4 doesn't seem to look much different than water=2... but maybe I'm not being very observant.TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

I'd suggest simply setting the video quality to "Maximum settings"You can actually raise the quality above this level slightly by running IL-2 manager and maxing all options. OpenGL will always be the setting for this sim, and stencil buffer should be on as you've seen. As far as water settings:Water = 0 Fastest water, without ground reflections, reduced surface texturing Water = 1 Normal water: ground and clouds reflections, cloud shadows, increased surface texturing (shimmer) Water = 2 Perfect water: same as Water = 1, plus wavy ground reflections and weather-dependant wave types Water = 3 Perfect water: same as Water = 1, plus wavy ground reflections and weather-dependant wave types but employing Nvidia Shader model 3.0 in Fast Render Mode for nice quality boost but at fps cost of course. Water=4 Same as water=3 But Shader Model 3.0 Quality Render Mode which gives greatest surface reflectivity, and most extreme surface texturing and weather-dependant waves. This is a much bigger fps hit. In my case, on the Italy map with a thunderstorm this single option took 22 avg fps off my game. nVidia 6800 and later cards can use SM3.0 (not good fps on my 6800 though), ATI adopted SM3.0 much later, so check your specific card. Use water=2 for cards that do not support SM3.0!The bottom line with water= settings is, if you don't see a difference, or not one that's worth it to you, run the lower water. Especially when online. A nice high fps buffer is always good for when AAA starts filling the sky and there are 30 fighters and bombers tooling around. Here are some benches that I ran using the "BlackDeath" track and fraps. These compare a few settings with my setup (E6600, 8800GTS, 2GB DDR2 1000). The first few are the same settings but going from water=4 to water=0. Then it's back to water=4 but down to effects=1, then it's effects=1 and forest down to 2. Then I try the 1280*960 res, and lastly I try a stock clock setting on the CPU. 3.3 GHz, 4-4-4-12 at 917.4MHz. -------------------------------------------- Frames: 7726 Time (ms): 153110 Min: 20 Max: 91 Avg: 50.46 Driver level setings: 8x AF 4X AA High Quality, no optimizations max quality settings, supersampling, vSynch off, triple buff on. start 0:03 end 2:35 1600*1200 Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=3 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=2 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=2 Water=4 Effects=2 ForceShaders1x=0 ****************************************************** 2007-02-28 16:25:45 - il2fb Frames: 8108 - Time: 153189ms - Avg: 52.928 - Min: 22 - Max: 91 8x AF 4X AA High Quality, no optimizations max quality settings, supersampling, vSynch off, triple buff on.
