The only ones I've heard of are Crysis and Flight SimulatorX, which will require a service pack apparently to use it apparently.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

What games that are out now...or coming out soon are going to utilise that game engine? From what I understand DX10 is for Vista or some of the vid cards that I can't afford to get after this new box build. I have to admit that those were some very sweet vids what with the trees falling after getting shot and whatnot....After watching those I think I have a box now that could handle it....just wanting to find a "Demo" to check out so I can decide how much over time I need to work in order to load two new vid cards to get ready for a FPS version that runs that game engine! Not sure a pair of 7950's could handle it without some overclocking...but this is my first time having NVIDEA cards. Always has ATi cards so I am a rookie once again!Any suggestions welcome!TX-CudaMinister of Information

...a SHAMELESS "BUMP"...I just added another 7950 GT KO card in SLi but haven't loaded Vista yet. Am I mistaken or do you have to run Vista in order to get the full advantage of DX10? If need be to get the eye candy that the video in the first post included I might sell these two cards and upgrade to the 8800's if these won't support DX10. Any ideas Ya'll?Fiber Has Been GOOD to ME!TX-CudaMinister of Information

The 7 series video cards do not support DirectX 10. You need to get the nVidia 8 series for that. Though at this point I'm not sure you should really worry about it at this point since we are still waiting for DX10 to hit mainstream. That said you can get pretty good deals on the 8600 series cards or go for the 8800GTS (640 meg version, not the 320) which will give you DX10 capability for 349.99http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130071S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

You hit the nail on the head Eco. I don't want to get rid of these two cards and go upgrade to the 8800 series cards as yet since there just aren't that many programs that are using DX10. And me switching over to Vista now is going to be like pulling teeth anyway.....I'll give it a year or so to let MS get the bugs worked out.TX-CudaMinister of Information

Here's a link to download a config file to enable the "Very High" graphics setting on the Crysis Demo on DirectX9 machines (ie. everyone with XP)... This is a little more handy than having to cut and paste settings into several configuration files... as this is just one file that configures everything for you...  Here's the link:http://www.crysis-online.com/?id=449My frame rates are hit pretty hard though.  The graphics actually don't seem to look that much better... other than bump mapping and dynamic lighting... so, not sure if it's worth the frame rate hit--at least on my machine.  It's actually pretty playable, except at the crucial times in a fire-fight, when frame rates drop down to the point where aiming becomes difficult. It is fun though, picking up crabs and throwing them at people... and mowing down saplings and coconut trees with your gun.I'm definitely going out and buying this thing tomorrow.  The graphics and physical dynamics are truly the best I've ever seen on a PC, and despite that, the frame rates (at "HIGH" settings) are very smooth.TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

I should have this today at some point also.  We'll have to meet up on a server or put up a server... UT3 is coming out next week and I may buy COD4.  Anyone have reports about COD4 and how cool or not cool it is?Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"

Yeah, the demo for COD 4 is impressive.  Saw it when I ran out to buy Crysis, but not sure if I'll bother with it for now, as Crysis has got my attention... Just about to install it, after I finish downloading the latest nvidia driver.  What is UT3?TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

I stayed up way too late last night playing Crysis... up until the "second night" of the game.  The graphics at "high" settings seemed to look just as good as the demo did, hacked at "very high", (with better shadows and particles modeling--like dust being kicked up from running soilders) and the frame rates were very smooth.  I also discovered that the retail version of Crysis also supports my full resolution of 3840x1024, but at that setting, I was getting less than 1fps.  So, I bumped it back down to a more standard 1280x1024.The dynamic physics continues to impress me.  I once tried shooting a sniper in a guard tower with a grenade launcher, but aimed too low, and the grenade hit the support truss instead... which caused the tower to slowly collapse when one leg gave way.  Explosions are very impressive.  I took out two tanks and one "Hind" looking helicopter. Not only are fish, crabs, various airborne birds, sand dippers, and flies modelled... but even frogs!I was chased at night by one helicopter for about 30 nerve-wracking minutes.  I'm not sure how I survived.  The crew was pretty smart, and would simply circle the area around me whenever I was cloaked, and as soon as I became visible would start pelting me with rockets and bullets, even while under tall canopies of trees.  I wondered if they could pick me up on FLIR, but found that swimming under water while cloaked in a river didn't disuade the amazing tracking ability of the helicopter.Anti-personel mines are interesting... when you get too close, they spring up into the air before exploding.  However, they just make a small pop sound on my machine.  Plus, when I got rescued by a turbo-jet version of an "osprey" like VTOL, it made absolutely no sound despite the after-burner type flames shooting out its 4 engines... so I'm obviously having some sound problems... unless they're supposed to be perfectly silent engines.I played online a little bit.  Quite different than BF2... still not sure how to do much online, as gameplay online is quite different than single player mode.  I did finally figure out how to "buy" weapons though.TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4

I'll probably be on a little tomorrow morning (T-day)... not counting the next half hour...I finished playing the single player campaign last night... lots of fun.  I found I could run in the DX9 "Very High" hack mode with reasonable framerates--though they dipped into the low teens at times.  I'm kind of considering picking up another 8800GTX to put in SLI, so I could perhaps play the game "very high" across all three monitors.  I'm kind of surprised though that the prices haven't come down much since I got my first one 7-8 months ago.  The best price I found was on "buy.com" for $480.Anyway, looking forward to seeing you online... and you too Rah (if you've got the game yet).TX-ScubaSteveWhite 4
