There isn't actually anything useful in that thread. hovering in ground effect is perfectly fine in the realworld. What it really funny is that Waggs says that you should land using autohover in the dev videos - not something I have much desire to do - and then in that thread one of the developer/test team guys says you should never do that. Of course he's the same one that says that if you fly with flight director on, and manually fly, that you are learning bad habits, I'm thinking that there are some strong oppinions on the forums, but not all are based on anything concrete. . .sounds familiar eh?  hehe.Anyway. . .The problem that I was encountering was due to some unknown AP malfunction. . .it would appear to allow K,T,H selection, and it seemed to work when outside of autohover mode, but when I engaged autohover it would do anything but hover. . .usually a nice backflip. I noticed that when I would leave auto-hover the AP selection buttons were no longer illuminated. For some reason auto hover was shutting AP down.No errors on the EKRAN, only slight external damage. . .in the end, a refly was all it took.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

I watched the first two "startup videos" and took notes - made a 47 step checklist - but I don't understand why he enables all the autopilot assists buttons (4) .....I took off and felt like I had less control than before - is that the way it should be?S~GunnyBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

Yeah - that's the funny part. . .half of the guys with 10,000 posts over at the DCS forums say that the only realistic way to fly the Black Shark is with at least the K/T/H buttons selected, and pressing the trim button while maneuvering. The other half say that you should have those buttons pressed, but then press the flight director button (nothing like a flight director that most pilots I know are familiar with) which eliminates the autopilot side of things but retains some stability and trim functions. This last case is more to my liking. . .For the landings, Wags seems to only suggest that you get auto hover stabilized above the ground, then lower the collective to land.Aww shucks - I'll just do what makes sense to me, and that's manual control for Take Off and Landing.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

Yeap.. Well when i take off i press only the banking and trim which all ARE on my CH hat switch since they are used constantly through a flight before a get shut down or by a maneuver mistake... when starting to move up choosing quickly the heading than press the automatic help for it and same with the Pitch than the master Auto.. well for now.But i really really really think that before to go weaponing it's important to maneuver the craft well to ovoid badly frustation that can cause some computer to fly out by the window... i think next step is the Gun ratata...ta..tata.....tata.. then after the missiles...
