Title: The White 2 Project
Post by: TX-Chukar on April 18, 2009, 01:38:24 pm
I finally got my pictures back for the finished Project.  Sorry about the quality, I am still in the film era and I used what was left in the camera.  A unfinished roll of 800 speed film which is obviously to fast for this type of shooting.

This was a Hasegawa 1:32 kit. I also used a photo etched brass kit for the interior.  The model kit came with leader stripes so I also purchased an extra decal set to get the white 2 that I wanted (my old number).

Thanks Guys,

Painting the skin really wasn't that hard.  I must have built at least 25 models as a kid and have always wanted to redo my favorite of those an F4 Phantom.  So my wife got me an airbrush last year and that made a huge difference in painting.

There was a bit of a learning curve since this was my first attempt at airbrushing, but creating some stencils made it fairly easy.  The majority of the time spent on it was for the interior of the cockpit trying to bend those little tiny brass pieces, most of which would fit inside of the end of an eraser.

Project actually started in June of last year.  Exterior pieces and exterior painting started around January. But of course there were months when i never touched it.

Hard time finding a good example of what mean by photo etched pieces but here are a couple.

In this photo you can see that #18 will be the throttle housing when bent and 20 & 22 will be some sort of box when completed.  #38 will be the pedals with the toe strap.

Man, I did not even know they had these etched pieces in kits now.  I might have to build a model or two this year.
