Title: Q9650 Investment Opportunity Post by: TX-Gunslinger on October 29, 2009, 12:45:09 pm How nutty is computer retail right now?
Well, about two months ago most of you know I purchased a Q9650, not on sale at New Egg. For most of this year the price on that chip never deviated. $319 in January, $319 in June and when I bought mine in early September it was $319.00 with a Free "Bunny Person". I noticed today that you don't get the free Bunny Person figure and the cost is $329.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130) At this rate they'll be over $400.00 by the end of the year. Go figure... It's cost will probably continue to climb, while retailers try and glean the most they can out of folks wanting to make the rigs they have top out. Once all the sales drop on them, whats left in stock if any, will practically be given away. Title: Re: Q9650 Investment Opportunity Post by: TX-Gunslinger on October 29, 2009, 06:49:56 pm Agreed. I've never seen a product like this though but then does represent the transitional point between I7 and LGA775.

Title: Re: Q9650 Investment Opportunity Post by: TX-Gunslinger on January 29, 2010, 10:49:54 pm Heheh - It's now the beginning of February and this product is still $329.99

Title: Re: Q9650 Investment Opportunity Post by: GOZR on January 30, 2010, 05:25:00 am Well i'm at 4050 Ghz on Q9550 and low v, Very impressive chip too. So going with a Q9650 @ 4050 Ghz or less is unnecessary since you can get the same just half the price.. and i did say that for quite some time now.. So for the guys that have a E8400/E8500 and don't want to spend much for a Quad well the Q9550 is killer.!
Title: Re: Q9650 Investment Opportunity Post by: TX-Gunslinger on January 30, 2010, 12:14:16 pm So, your assertation is that every Q9550 will clock to 4 or over?

Title: Re: Q9650 Investment Opportunity Post by: TX-Gunslinger on January 30, 2010, 01:51:32 pm Well, that's good then. If I were buying now I'd at least try one of those processors. Good savings.
If you did not realize - I started this thread as a joke really :) You know, we spend far too much energy trying to convince each other of the "best" savings.... when in fact, when you are at the end of your life and look back - it's really going to be about the "time" and not the "money".. Q9550 it is - if you can get the Microcenter or equiv batches....
