Title: TX-Gunslinger's "All Altitude" Dedicated Server Opens Today
Post by: TX-Gunslinger on December 24, 2009, 08:55:01 pm
You'll find our TX "All-Altitude" Server up and running.  Has had good usage over the last 24 hours.

"All-Altitude" means there are a mix of ground and 3 to 6 Km air starts in the rotation.  In order to balance mission length (don't want too many people having to wait a lifetime to join) and maximize the breadth of environments rendered by Rise of Flight, I felt this was necessary.

Current settings have "Navigation Icons","Warmed-Up Engine" and "Subtitles" set to on.

Maximum Server Size is currently set to 16 - Most missions are 6v6 with 2 larger missions. Server features as many add-on "store" aircraft as feasible, with every mission containing at least two "stock" aircraft.

The missions are constructed "quasi-historically", in that historical locations, dates and aircraft have been chosen for historically correct missions (3 missions in rotation now are purely historical).  I've modified this theme some to ensure each and every mission has "default" aircraft.  So there's a Spad or Alb D.Va or N28 tucked in each - even though they really don't fit perfectly in the historical context.

Folks,

"All Altitude" Dedicated will be opening as soon as I get home tonight from work.  Missions updated to incorporate a few appropriate scenarios with D.VIIF vs SPAD XIII.   If you see me on comms you'll know it's up.

Spent last two nights installing Q9550, flashing 680i bios, tweaking missions and moderate Overclock (3.4 GHz).

Hopefully we'll be able to see if more than 5 v 5 is possible at this bandwidth. Most are 5 v 5 scaling to 8 v 8.  Last time I hosted it on dedicated there was no lag.

It's time to have a little fun, I think.

You know Gozr - that's what I was thinking too  ;)  What do you think?  What would you like?

J99 made a "skins server" and "remote ROF dedicated server monitor" applications.  I need to go look those up again to see if they can be used to provide common skins to all players....

A portion of the community has expressed the desire to fly with skins and no stats.  I might run a poll today over at ROF to see if folks would populate such a server.  My guess is they would IF they knew it was up.

Me Mods ON since it's basically just settings.. SKINS ON no stats why not IMO.. i like the skins..

Poll always good  even just to make the server known :) Publicity !

SO i tried to connect to the server at 3:00 PM today ( PCT) 5 person were there but as soon as i connected i think the server rotated to a mission with only N17 and DIII witch i don't have since the change server was empty.

This will be a problem in the future for those that want specific choice non stock aircraft.

But i did connect this time and it seems to work .. :)

Yes,  thanks.   It's had folks in it all afternoon.  No more than 6 or 7 max once.  In that mission you mention there were DVa's too.  Were they taken?

Here's some stats for ya..

From 1800 CST to 1900 CST - with 6 players solid running coops

ROF Dedicated server Internet bandwidth used in upload = 191.9896 MB in 1 hour
                                                                  dowload = 19.1396 MB in 1 hour

Only N17 and DIII available.. did i not look around for more planes.. that would be my fault then?  hummm did you have more than those 2 ?

N17 on allies only - 4 D.Va + 4 D.III so folks that don't buy aircraft can fly.  1917 scenario - D.Va is not too much different in performance from D.III so..  I think it works...

I can't make every mission with SXIII+D7+N28, but I do have much of these stock ac in scenarios.  The one you saw is the worst.
