Title: Wierd goings-on in the flight sim community Post by: TX-Gunslinger on June 16, 2010, 09:21:49 pm While minding my own business, I stumbled across this Virtual Thunderbirds video:
http://www.simhq.com/_aboutus/panther.html (http://www.simhq.com/_aboutus/panther.html) So, I watched this thing for about 21 minutes - desparately seeking something interesting - only to be rewarded with not one, but two commercial interuptions for Betty White's new sitcom (Hot in Cleveland) tonight. Uhhhh, someone please tell me what I don't get here.... :) It takes 14 freakin minutes for one of those stupid planes to actually take off..... Baffled in Austin..... S! Oh and Betty White is taking over, finally after 88 1/2 years. She is over the top on popularity with college students. There was a Facebook page made up a few months back encouraging her out, and on Saturday Night Live. I got on Hulu a week or so ago and watched it. Hulu - Saturday Night Live: Betty White - Watch the full episode now. (http://www.hulu.com/embed/LfNpvQTLhOnJP2Wkmtlnlg) It was pretty funny for about 80% of the show, much higher than normal, since the early beginnings of it with Belushi and the gang. It's actually good to see an person this age still as active as she is. And as good if not better to see a person at that age still has humor. Too often old people act like they are on drugs only they are shitty drivers and act like dicks. There are some it appears that are still comfortable with being funny. So that is great to see. I think youtube is paid for (and hulu is too) by advertising. It is free but you pay for it by watching ads which can be much better if the ads are targeted to you. Gmail has content specific ads geared to you and TV does not so you will not see a tampon ad on Gmail but you will on TV. Its also part of the privacy debate / paranoia. If the video ads were about Coogar gimble mods that would be neat for you but how would they know that? I'm talking about the Virtual Thunderbirds video at the bottom of Stephanie "Panther" Lessentine's page. She seems cool, I'm not picking on her - just on the Virtual Thunderbirds video at the bottom of the page. I am impressed by their ability to fly formation and their general piloting skills - way cool. It's just how they chose to showcase it all in the video..... 14 minutes of bullshit before any flying actually occurs. If I want a USAAF plug, I can go to the USAAF web sites. On a humerous note - This is why there will always be a need for U.S. Naval Air. If you need bombs on target somewhere in the world, it'll be a gray aircraft delivering it. Why? Cause just like this video - it takes the U.S. Airforce way too long to get aircraft in theater and over target. 14 minutes..... in the virtual world is 6 months in the real one. S! I also didn't see Betty, but after 3 minutes of nothing more than still shots for the most part. I turned it off. At least Betty is entertaining. |
