Title: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: LW_Crewchief on February 16, 2003, 03:27:35 pm S~ To the TX warriors that kept me busy last night in UBI. It was great to see to see Eco and Zen again :) I usually fly much earlier, as half of the squad is in the UK or there abouts.. so that's why we miss seeing each other.
I spoke to Eco briefly about the possibility of having our squads, duke it out in a scrim. We have been having alot of fun with that lately with some other squads, and we find the scrims provide a much more controlled arena to work on the basics of team play and gunnery. Our pilots skills range from basic to advanced so we should provide good cannon fodder for ya... hehe. As far as game settings go.. we like to have the full cockpit disabled (some of us fly with it on or off). Limited ammo, fuel..and overheat on or off. Map icons can be disabled... basically much as the TX server was last night... that was perfect. We fly for an hour in each session, then screenshot the scores. If time permits we'll go at it for another hour and so on. We have only one request... we ask that vulching is not permitted on spawning aircraft or aircraft on departure or final for landing... we turn on smoke to indicate we are in this mode. We figure once your 1-2 km from the base either coming or going, your an open target. Does this sound fair to you guys?? Anyway.. Idaho, MajorGuns and myself had a blast last night... it was sincerely an honor to see and fly with you guys again ~SALUTE~ Let us know if your interested in the scrim idea, and we'll work on getting a time/day figured out :) I had to seperate the LW website from my personal website as things became a bit messy to work with... as a result the LW website address changed about a month ago and I re-designed the entire site. Please feel free to visit the site and let me know what you all think. http://webpages.charter.net/crewchief1/Lonewolves/lonewolves.html Cuda... I miss ya buddy... havn't seen you in like forever M8. Drop me a line sometime :) Zen.. When you moved, is your email the same? If not can you send it to me.. thanks :) LW_Crewchief Gold 1 Out Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: LW_Tornado on February 16, 2003, 04:11:59 pm Glad you all enjoyed it and thanks to Razor for the use of the Cable server OC1/2 , and im sure youll see more of us TX'ers in the near future with FB in the wings.S~ TX-TornadoBlue IIIB~
Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: TX-EcoDragon on February 16, 2003, 05:31:35 pm You guys left while I was nursing home an injured P-39, which kept me from typing. . . Anyway, it was great fun flying with you guys, pretty much except for when you destroyed my IL-2 with that amazing head on shot! It also seemed that you and Idaho stuck together really well, which made for a good match whenever we encountered you, as getting on one's six, meant one getting on my six! Anywho. . . as your ex training officer I have to say I am very proud of you guys, the time that has passed since we have flown has proven to be time well spent by you guys and you did sem to fly as a unit quite effectively!!! (heheheh ok. . so I am not sure I really did any training. . but hey I can pretend!)I tangled with major guns last night, but never did manage to shoot her down. . . I tried, but it wasnt long before her team mates came and tied me up! Excellent flying all. . and wooof!!!S! Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: TX-Zen on February 16, 2003, 06:54:56 pm S~ LWS~ Crew, very good to see you again as well. Its been a long time for sure. Though I didn't stay long (I'm rather burned on IL2, taking a breather for FB) I enjoyed it as well. Its good to go head to head with old friends, even better to fly on the same color. I definately agree with Eco on the team work, where there was one, there was another lining up for the clear 6 shot. Great work on your part and as always your 109's were flown to your strengths. Very impressive.I would be interested in a squad scrim as well. Please don't worry about vulching...I would hope that after all the fireworks you still understand where we are on that situation. To be brief, there are no real objectives in IL2 on a dogfight server, nothing to break the mundane low altitude TnB fights which the germans are clearly not suited for. Such scenarios take away most of the real advantages they had and force them to play the russian game. After a year of playing the game I find that to be decidely boring. I'm not particularly fond of soviet aircraft, while I do respect their real life design and performance I am far more interested in the germans, which have captured my enthusiasm since I was a kid. When using IL2's and fighters in a combined arms attack, you do have objectives. The IL2's have to run the guantlet to attack the base, the fighters have to defend against the enemy coming in after the IL2's, squad roles are in effect, there is a sense of accomplishment for each member of the attack if they can complete their respective mission. It gives a stronger purpose to the squad's activities, brings us closer and gives a bit more satisfaction that endlessly clearing your wingmans 6 or racking up kills for points. It is not and never was about beating on a helpless enemy for the sake of getting kicks. It's always been about bringing something more to the table than high noon TnB, which is quite frankly something I am not interested in and something I feel puts the germans at an unrealistic disadvantage. So in short, nothing to worry about during a scrim. We don't fly IL2's, we have no reason to attack the runways. Under scrim conditions I am quite happy with pure fighter vs figher combat, that to me is a very appropriate scenario. To further clarify how we run scrims, we usually have everyone get set for takeoff, then shut down engines. Both teams report when ready and when set, we call Go and everyone starts up and takes off. Since we all start engines at the same time, no chance to be hit on the runway either. As far as landing aircraft getting attacked, we usually don't do last man standing or scrim for points, therefore there is little incentive to keep one plane in reserve and try to hit the damaged and no ammo planes as they try and land. I've seen other squads do that...I don't see the point. It's pretty clear when one squad has achieved dominance in the air, at some point its rather obvious when to break contact, call the victor and get reset for the next run. It also helps run more than one or scrims in an evening's time. These days we usually fly full real with no externals but thats not set in stone, I don't think we'd have a problem matching the settings from the server the other night. Since we do this for fun, we really try not to get bogged down in the crap. We just fly and go at it, practice some teamwork, have a few laughs and such. We're open on the settings, the time and place and all that. Crew, my email hasn't changed, I'll PM you in UBI with it later today. Salute again, looking forward to a scrim and hopefully seeing more of you guys out there. Pre PS: What are you guys most looking forward to in FB? For me its hands down the Dora, then probably the P47. K4 is a monster from what the beta testers have said and the reviews on the joy of flying the LA7 are so strong that I am actually quite interested in taking it for a spin. And not to mention the JU87G, at last we'll actually be able to fly pure german combined arms where appropriate on the public servers. TX-ZenBlack 6TX Squadron CO
Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: LW_Crewchief on February 19, 2003, 01:01:03 am S~ Zen and TX'ers,I just wanted to let you know I have sent out notice to the LW asking for their input regarding a match with the TX squadron. I'll let you know soon how they want to proceed.Regarding the vulch issue.. The LW feel much differently about the topic than that other squad did, we respect how others feel and we just deal with it doing our thing and them doing their thing... it's much more relaxing that way, and the fun factor isn't tarnished. I was almost afraid to even mention the topic at all, because I didn't want to bring up the past, forgive me. I was only calling on recent experiences with a different squad we had been scrimming with.. the issue had come up and the smoke idea was invented to combat the issue. I was only interested with how you felt about that idea. The LW are prepared to work with what ever the 2 squads agree upon.Speaking of the other squad mentioned earlier... I have resigned my membership to them, it was fruitless for me to continue it... my heart is with my flea bitten pack of friends known as the Lone Wolves.. we have fun together, as fun is meant to be had... and stress free I might add.Again, it was great to fly with you and the TX again.... CUDA my brotha.. it was truly awesome to see you again the other night... sneakin' over to bomb my base... what were you thinkin' LOL~SALUTE~LW_Crewchief"Crew"
Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: TX-Zen on February 19, 2003, 03:01:35 am Well alrighty then Crew, S~Just let me know when you are ready and we'll make a time and date. I think this will also be a great chance to reintroduce our squads, I know that you have many new members as well as we. Salute, very much looking forward to it.PS I personally think you are much better off with the LW, the other guys, while nice people, are a tad on the political side at times. I guess my .02 cents is that I'm glad to hear it and hope that there are no hard feelings on either side. TX-ZenBlack 6TX Squadron CO
Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: TX-Deck on February 19, 2003, 09:53:27 am S~ LW, sorry I missed the fun!I'm currently on LOA wrapping up a flock of loose ends, however I hope to fly with all of you again soon. You mention the "smoke" issue and I assume that you are talking about letting loose on the smoke when on approach for a landing? I've done this in the past but my intent was more for the planes on the ground, to let them know I'm on approach and to stay clear of the runway. I guess it could work well in a scrim, in order to notify the other team that your plane is setting up for a landing, if in fact that is what you are talking about. The only fallback I could see about this is the baseball "balk" factor. When a pitcher starts the windup, if he doesn't throw the ball across homeplate, it is considered a balk. (most people probably already know this....) If he trys to pick off a runner from any base after starting the windup, it is somewhat unfair to the runner, as he was assuming the pitcher is going to chunk the ball to home like a regular pitch. When a balk is called the baserunner gets a free base advance on account of the pitcher's deception. How does this apply to IL2? If a pilot pops smoke and begins the approach, avoids trouble, then turns smoke off to rejoin the fight, I would consider that an "IL2 balk". Does this make sense? I don't think we would really have a problem with it because most pilots we know have more "honor" than that [ooooooooo, dangerous word there! ;) ] but it should be agreed upon ahead of time what the rules are just to be safe.I think a TX/LW scrim would be a hoot, I patiently await the announcement.S~TX-Deck out.
Title: Re: We had a great time last night ~SALUTE~ Post by: LW_Tornado on February 19, 2003, 06:23:16 pm Due to the epic proportions of the oncoming scrim, it is quite evident it will have to be a pay-per-view event at least . lmao . :)S~ (Flyin an Dyin, TX Style)TX-TornadoBlu Tre'TX squadron TOB~
