I finally spent some time playing IL2 and I found out the ATI drivers have quite a few problems.  I had crashes CTD, artifacts, and light blue glow that is more prevalent in low light and winter maps.  Come to find out this seems to be the norm with ATI users.  There are some settings that help.  Landscape settings made the biggest difference with the CTD.  I still get them but much less frequently.  Turning off vertical shaders is suppose to eliminate the blue glow but I haven't tried it yet.

I just wanted to correct what I had stated in another post that my 5870 worked well in games including IL2.  I hadn't really run it long enough in IL2 to notice the problems. While its the only game that seems to have a problem I just wanted to set the record straight.

Roger, good info.

Have you tried the Catalyst 10.4 drivers yet?

There's also a DX9/10/11 patch at the DirectX site....

Using 10.3, I didn't realize 10.4 was out, I will give it a whirl.

I just reinstalled my 5870 after a few weeks of testing GTX-280.  I'm going to install 10.4's in just a minute.

The 10.4's were supposed to have the Il2 fix.  This was mentioned in the 10.3 driver notes..

We'll see here in a min...

Ahhhh foobar...

Release notes for 10.4 still list Il2 Sturmovik text corruption as "Known bug"....

Not fixed yet...

Sorry - but at least it's on the list...

10.5 Drivers are out and we now have Perfect Mode......

  I just started it to confirmed that I can run Perfect mode but haven't gotten a chance to take one up for a spin in with it enabled.

Installed 10.5's over the weekend with no text corruption and very good frames.

I have given up on the new ATI drivers’ and went retro 9.10.  It seems every release has issues.  10.5 and 10.6 allow perfect mode and no text corruption but give me prop reflections and stuttering.
