Hey all, since I met a few of you fellow Texans,(Rahman and Cuda) I was wondering if ya guys could give me some tips on armament. (range, type, etc.) I am farily new to this, and my flying skills are coming along good.  The problem I have is when to shoot at a damn plane, lol... Also, when a bogey flies past me, how the heck does he turn around so fast and get behind me? Any tips would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Killer,Thanks for registering on the site, welcome to TXsquadron.com!There are many details I would like to know more about when you are talking about the bandit turning around so fast to get behind you, when you have a sec either reply to this post or shoot me a PM. As for gun ranges, .40 is about the max range I will fire if I'm in a tail on shot...   .3 or less for a high degree deflection shot like when you are turning inside a bandit and have a full view of the top of his plane. (When you are both turning horizontally with wings straight up and down). For normal shooting from behind a bandit, I fire at about .25 or less...sometimes .10 even. Though it can be very hard to manuever this close to a bandit, you will see the results pay off in watching his plane disintigrate with a few quick bursts...saves ammo, is way more accurate and tends to keep you "concealed" longer if he is not aware that you are coming up behind him. There a lots of variables in air to air combat, what works once might not work the next time so I must emphasize the ranges I suggest are very general and depend entirely on how you read the situation. With practice (and LOTS of it) you will be able to figure out how far away you need to be under any given situation to score a hit. As a matter of fact, gunnery is the most difficult part of the game by far. It's something that everyone in TX is still improving on and you will see most players online are not that great at shooting. Because of how hard it is, an important thing to learn is when to take a shot in the first place...that skill is probably best improved by constant shooting ironically enough. Over time you will begin to see what shots have the best chances to hit and will also learn how to manuever your plane into a position that gives you that type of shot. Thanks again for registering with the site....send me a PM if you like and I will be happy to answer anything that I can. TX-Zen"White 1"TX Squadron CO

Salut! Killer-Elite...just a quick thought on what I fly with...If in a 109G/AS which is my bird of choice I will almost always load the 108 Nose Cannon exclusively...if there are ground targets I will load either the 108 or 20mm gun pods...with the 108 nose cannon I set convergence at 250-350 meters...i try not to fire until I am no more than .40-.25 away from the target...most times if you can get in behind the target aircraft just get in as close to them as possible and hit 'em with a short burst..In full real servers this is what you need to do in order to make each and every round count.....you don't want to end up far from base with an empty gun!!....see you in the skies...TX-CUDARocky...TX-CUDA on UBIhemicudatex on HyperLobby

Thanks for the fast and helpfull responses.  As far as how one gets behind me so fast,,,,What I meant to elaborate on, is when we both pass eachother head on,,,,All of a sudded he is right behind me.  I was wondering how one does this? Also, one more helpfull tip...What is a good range setting for the cannon and the machine guns...I guess I am tired of being cannon fodder, lol.....Elite Out!

You have to take into account a lot of different things. For one thing, he may have a serious speed advantage over you which will give him a faster rate of turn than you (As far as how fast his nose moves compared to yours). He may be going vertical after the merge. Typically if he does, he is Energy fighting you, using altitude and speed to work for a superior position...he may be flying a Yak 3, which can virtually swap ends when pulling back on the stick either vertically or horizontally. He could be using flaps and very low speed turns which give him a tiny turning circle...sometimes that can offset a faster planes higher turn rate. And ofcourse he could be cheating his ass off by using an F22 flight model under his P39 skin. Just a few examples of how the bandit might be pulling angles on you so fast. I used to wonder the same thing back in the day, but realized after a while that it wasn't him, it was me that allowed him to close on my 6 so fast. You probably aren't as incompetant as I was back then, so lets assume he's cheating. TX-Zen"White 1"TX Squadron CO

You got to be kidding me?! Another game ruined by cheats...I was wondering about that....when people have really crappy pings, and have some out of the number kill stats....Well cheating never stopped me from playing fun games...just pisses me off when people have to resort to it....Do you guys have any kind of practice games?  If so, would you guys care if I joined in sometime? Damn, you can sure tell who the Texan's are on-line....The ones that take the time to help out a fellow Texan....

Killer,Just kidding about the cheating thing lol! People do cheat, there are a number of ways to do it but I wouldn't let it get you down, its all part of the flow. Hard to say how widespread it is, some nights you see some strange things, other nights everything appears normal. Playing on a good ping server helps, less chance of lag kills confusing the issue. Yes we do have practice, every Wednesday at 10pm CST. You are more than welcome to attend, we'll set you up with the passwords and such, just look for TX-Training usually hosted by myself or Rahman. Always glad to help a fellow Texan! TX is all about teamwork and cooperation, for those of us in the squad and for those of us not. We just like to have a good time and kick some arse in the process and everyone is welcome to fly with us.  S! you on Wednesday,TX-Zen"White 1"TX Squadron CO

Hey sounds good.  I might be alittle late.  I am in a squad over in the Ghost Recon community, and we have a scheduled match so we have to retain our Number 1 ranking, but after that I will see ya'll in the skies.   Killer...Out!
