This is Duga-3 radar for locating US ICBM starts. It was built in 1976, but never actually used by army because of technical problems. Although in 1982 all problems was fixed and same radar at Far East entered to service. After Chernobil it was closed. Some think that it was constructed near the ill fated nuclear reactors of Chernobyl due to the massive amounts of power that were needed to fire up such a massive array. This site is located in the direct path of the radiation plume...
