I must admit, of all the cool developments occuring this year in Combat Aviation Simulatio, the development of a mod map which covers SW England and NW France is the one that I'm most excited about.  Coupled with new Mod 4.09 server software, these mods give TX a chance to field new capabilities in Il2 Server offerings.

I want to present these as potential future OC-3 maps, to give OC-3 users and Squadmates a better understanding and preview of what's possible in the near future with our server.

There are currently 3 mod maps which span Southeast England, the English Channel and the French Coastline (plus varying degrees of inland France) in various stages of completion.

The first map, by Fly_Zo - at the aaa forums and included in the unified installer (i.e. most of you already have it) is "Normandy with COAST OF BRITAIN", which shows up in FMB as fly_Zo_BOB_A (Autumn textures), fly_Zo_BOB_S (Summer) and fly_Zo_BOB_W (winter).

While this is a very high quality map, it is an immersion killer for many of us in that this Normandy area has been 1 of only 2 maps in Il2 that cover France since 2004 and, therefore I and I'm sure everyone else already sick of imagining Normandy as every other area in Western Europe.

The second map, by the great UK skinner Canon

Note Radar towers (2 types)....

Holland ground textures

I love many of the features of Canon's new map - except it's not 1:1, more like 3:1.

I'll present the last map in a second post.  To wrap up these two maps, Fly_zo's is already available to unified installer users, while Cannon's final map is due to be released sometime soon (this has been it's status for about three months).  A beta version of Cannon's map (incompatible with the final release) is available at AAA forums in the mapmods section.

Well i've seen it, it remind me some of the FS9/FSX  photo realistic addon with no autogen , They look great from altitude but look horrible from low .. alas.
The map from the team 352 look much much better..

If I had to chose one of the channel maps, right now - It would be the one I'm about to present.  I've taken screenshots from the 352nd Virtual Fighter Groups forum and resized them for our forums (800 horizontal pixels).  The detail that the 352nd team is putting into these maps is incredible.  This is the only 1:1 scale channel map of the three which will be available in the very near future.

Plot of road and railway system for this map:

Two versions of this map are under construction - the first, which is near release covers 1940 (can scale 1939-early 1943).  The second map will depict 1943, but won't be released for some time.

And after much toil, they created CLIFFS!  Point du Hoc

Ok, this is from the 1943 map work - but look at the detail in this sequence of Beauvais Aerodrome - hills in the taxiway!

Back to 1940

RAF Aerodromes

More French (Luftwaffe fields next)....

This map is too amazing for words......  What do you think?

We have had a long discussion within the 352nd Command staff.  We have decided that we are not able to continue developing any projects through the AAA site

Yes the best decision .

Simply stunning!!

I've said it before and will say it again.  I wish that Oleg would team up with the guys who made BattleGround Europe (WWII Online).  If the flight models were better I would love for us to be there...  Actual live people, tanks, arty on the ground to pound as well as dogfighting.  All tanks, trucks, etc that you bomb in game are real people...  The graphics look alot like what you have above also...
What the game lacks graphic wise, it makes up in gameplay.  Teamwork is the name of the game or else...
