Aww man...sorry I missed it! Hope they play it again sometime. So when you coming back out?The Salinas folks decided to put me on the Marketing committee for the 2004 show...talk about exhausting! Guess I did a good enough job for them to ask me back in 2005. We have an awesome show lined up for our 25th Anniversary. I'm sure Wayne will be there...not flying unfortunately, but who cares so long as he's there! Such a cool guy.Anyway, gimme a yak next time you're at Metz! And thanks for the heads up on the show...hope to catch it when it airs again sometime!Tysonhttp://www.tvrphotography.com

Better late than never! I think I'll dub this page the collage that keeps going and going! With over 100 images, more than any page to date, ther'll be plenty to browse through. Some of the images to look for include Salinas from above, not only the layout of the airshow, but an entirely different perspective on the performers themselves including Jimmy Franklin, Jim Leroy and the E-Team. The Friday Night Show always brings a unique look to the aircraft that fly, especially the saturated colors of the 2003 CF-18 Demo plane. Other performers include Dan Buchanan and Eric Beard with pyro a blazing! The best part of the show had to be the emotional retirement of Wayne Handley. From his twilight tribute for his wife Karen to his final ribbon cut, I've done my best to capture it all. Obviously there's much more along with many to thank for their assistance in photographing this show in such a unique style: -The Showcopters for their aerial assistance -Air Boss Gale Rawitzer and second in command, Willie Turner -Cindy Rogers and Liz Butterworth for nodding 'yes' whenever a request was asked of -Don Chapin for running me around everywhere to got the sponsor shots -Harry Wardwell for the continuous pats on the back at every passing -President Karen Curtis for her enduring friendship -The entire CF-18 Demo team for allowing me to do pretty much whatever and 'Brass' for letting me sign the landing gear door -LandingZone Restaurant for filling their walls with my images from throughout the year -Wayne Handley for allowing me these exclusive images of his retirement flights -All of the performers for their incredible display of talent along with proving this to be one of the best airshows in the country -Dan Linehan and Ginni Brown for including me in the creation of the 2003 air show program -And finally, the entire CIAS staff for not only allowing me to continually participate in such a ground breaking show, but also for welcoming me as their newest board member for the Marketing Department...just wait 'til the 2004 show!!! Hope ya'll enjoy the pics!!! http://www.tvrphotography.com/Aviation.htmhttp://www.tvrphotography.com

Wow! Looks like you had fun!I got a call from Bill on Friday letting me know he was back in town and heading down to Wayne's. Though I wasn't actually invited, I did think about dropping everything and heading to Metz myself. Unfortunately, I had a flight early, early saturday morning to Portland and had too much work to finish. As a matter a fact, that's where I'm writing this from. Had I known you were going to be there as well, it may have made the hour long trip to Metz worth it!So how does the prop look on 301WH? When I was there on tues., Wayne was prepping it for repaint due to some minor bubbling. Only cosmetic of course. I also heard Ken was released from the hospital...hope he's showing signs of improvement! Unfortunately, I also heard some back surgery may be in order...my prayers are with him!Tysonhttp://www.tvrphotography.com

Bummer...definitely just missed ya. I left around 11am for a meeting with the Showcopters in Salinas.Wayne told me Bill might show up...wish I coulda stayed. I haven't seen him since Detroit a couple months ago. He got me up in the Red Barons...lotsa fun! His plane is certainly one of the wildest ones out there!Would you believe, I have yet to actually fly with Wayne! I keep drooling over 301WH and looking at that second seat, but when it comes down to it, I'm usually there to work and a flight would be simply for fun...no time for that! Someday...Welp, air show season is officially over. I have one final trip to Dallas for ICAS and then I finally get to enjoy living in Monterey. I hear it's beautiful here!Keep in touch, I'm sure we'll hook up again at some point!TRhttp://www.tvrphotography.com

Hey guys!wow, what a long weekend! I was quite amazed to have flown three seperate times during the show. Once is hard enough! The Tomcats were simply awesome! Two huge ominous aircraft approaching from the lower 6 o'clock hovering into position...just indescribable. I do have to admit however, that this was one of the most difficult shoots I have ever done. Just the thought of knowing that this may never happen again was stressful enough! With sunset only 20 minutes away and cloud cover hiding the remaining light, my shutter speeds hovered around 1/30 - 1/80 of a second...very slow!!!Sean was great as he stayed in position around 140knts...the F-14's bobbed up and down as we banked the turn. We asked that they dissengage the air brakes...don't think they liked that much! All and all, they did a fantastic job and I was able to get some photos that luckily turned out!Brett, stopped by Metz today on my way home and visited with Wayne. He's doing well. Anytime you want some images when you're down there, gimme a holler! As far as output, I use a digital Canon 10D as my main camera. For prints, I use a pro lab in my area that prints from CD...excellent work! Not sure what output device they use, but it is chemistry related. Basically, the digital image is projected onto the paper and then run through chemicals just like any 1-hour lab would do. Great for archival qualities!Hope that helps....thanks for posting the link! Kind of an after the fact sorta thing! Most of all, thanks for the compliments...always appreciated!!!http://www.tvrphotography.com

It was a real treat to snag this image over the Las Vegas Strip on Friday. The F-14's are from VF-101 'Grim Reapers' with Sean D. Tucker in the foreground. The logistics of this shoot, including the temporary rerouting of aircraft from McCaren Airport, were mind boggling! Never thought it would actually happen!!! Hope you guys enjoy! Real World Aviation / Real world aviation / Re: Get a load of Oshkosh! Pics Posted

I have to say, my preconceptions of Oshkosh couldn't have been further from what it actually is. I had originally thought Osh was a place for private pilots and owners of small aircraft to congregate. While that's not at all incorrect, I had no idea of all the other stuff that happens there. It truly is the mecca for aviation buffs and aircraft owners alike. When I first arrived at Osh to see the endless rows of aircraft and the accompanying camping tents, I was a bit jealous...I mean, how fun can that be! Then it rained, and rained some more. All the while, I snuggled in my hotel room enjoying the passing thunderstorms. No longer was envy a feeling! So, costs withstanding definitely camp at your own risk!Canon has done some pretty remarkable things with digital over the past couple of years. I have two EOS-1v film bodies I haven't picked up since April. Granted, moving from the rock-solid 1v to the fragile 10D has had it's problems...I keep breaking it from over use. While on my trip (Dayton, Selfridge, Osh and Abbotsford, BC), I shot well over 9000 images with a single 10D body. The camera's shutter broke in Selfridge, MI and Canon came to the rescue. They Saturday Fedex'd a loaner and got to work repairing mine...kudos to Canon.Nikon, for some strange reason, has always been priced much higher than Canon for comparable equipment. Though I'm not too familiar with Nikon's line-up anymore, there has to be something on the horizon for them to be more competitive with soon.As far as archiving, I do a couple of things. First, I take all of the uncorrected, compressed images from the camera and put them on CD. Next, I take the images and begin post-production; cleaning, sharpening, sizing and converting to .tif. I then back those up on three separate CD's. One CD is used as the workhorse (the most referred to and traveled with CD ), another is a back up kept at the office and the third goes to a safe at my parents house…in case mine should burn down or other catastrophic event. But nonetheless, the cd’s are all standard office depot (or whatever) cd’s, nothing fancy. The part that scares me about larger archiving sources, such as DVD, is that if a disc is lost or becomes unreadable, that’s a lot of lost images. A lower capacity cd, albeit is still a big loss, it’s not as big as the DVD would be.Hope that answers some of your questions. I don’t normally bug posts with casual updates, but I thought this show was pretty significant. I’ll let you know when Abbotsford, Salinas, Edwards and Nellis are up. Those should have some interesting shots.Tysonhttp://www.tvrphotography.com

My first time at Osh, and it was unbelievable. From the immense formation flyovers to the multitude of weather conditions in a single week...hey, I'm from California! I was fortunate to have a job when I arrived in Osh working with www.Aero-News.net. Those guys had me running all over the place learning things about aircraft I didn't even know were there. Other fun events included the Wright Flyer stamp unveiling, interviewing Chuck Yeager as part of the Young Eagle Program, GyroCopters from Fon du Lac, meeting EAA's founder Paul Pobrezney...ok well, he tried to run me over in his modified VW Bug...what could I say? And of course, I can't forget about the interview with Neil Armstrong...he did a great job evading the media at Dayton, but even he knew that eventually I'd find him! If there was one thing I could change during my stay at Oshkosh, it would have been to spend more time with Jim Wright. I walked passed his aircraft photographing the children admiring their reflections many times. On three different occasions, I was supposed to interview Jim but our paths never crossed at Osh. Though I had met him a couple times as a passerby, I never thought I would regret not having the ability to actually sit down and talk with him. While editing some of the images, they suddenly took on a new meaning. He and the H-1 will sorely be missed. On the lighter side, the Stars of Tomorrow took to the skies each day for the first time in front of a major air show audience...not counting the smaller audience and intended 'practice' show at Selfridge ANG base the week prior. Shandy, Goody, Nick, David, Wytch and Zach took their turns in the sky and performed flawlessly. It was bittersweet to end the week and see all these guys go their seperate ways. I'm sure we'll be seeing them again in the near future! All and all the show was fantastic! Over 11,000 aircraft showed up scattered throughout Winnebago County. From The Lagoon to Fon du Lac Airport, there wasn't a single moment when one could look up and not see an aircraft flying. Seeing Airbus' A300-600 Beluga, Russia's BE-103 Beriev Seaplane, 3 Ford Tri-Motors airborne at the same time, Adam Aircraft's A-600 corporate concept jet and NASA's TR-1 taxiing within feet of me made the trip so worth while! Hope you enjoy the pics half as much as I enjoyed the experience. http://www.tvrphotography.com/Aviation.htmSo many people to thank! Buzz, what more can I say you're awesome and a great friend to boot! EAA PR guy, Dick Knapinsky...I owe you! ANN's Jim Campbell for having faith enough in my photography to add me to his staff despite having never met! Karl Koeppen for keeping me on the in with the S.O.T. gang...look forward to seeing you at Nellis next weekend. Fellow photogs, Richard V.M. and Eric Hildebrandt for lending an ear to talk off! Hey Rich, where's my pole holding pic? (now you know why I stay behind the camera!) Speaking of pole holding, thanks Willie for allowing me the priveledge of taking your position on the runway for Eddie...of course if Eddie asks why the pole was crooked...I claim no responsibility! If I'm forgetting anyone...you know who you are, many thanks!!! http://www.tvrphotography.com

I didn't know you were a SoCal boy! Yeah those Mugu shows were pretty cool back in the days when they had live firings. Imagine an airshow with, not only closed airspace, but closed sea firing range! I remember the SR-71 making a low pass in 1985...that was cool! For what it's worth, I've only been shooting air shows professionally for three years...an amature for about 15! So, obviously, anyone can do this...keep shootin' and even better...keep flyin'!!!Tysonhttp://www.tvrphotography.com

Hey, great photos!Glad to hear you met Veronica. We always look forward to the San Francisco folks showin up...and you wonder why I work in the low paying air show industry.I'm also glad you guys got to experience the wonderful air show ambience of partyism! Next time, be sure to arm yourselves with the always favorite lick-on tattoos...talk about taking the Elk Lodge to the next level!Working with Wayne has always been a thrill, especially with his retirement. I was so fortunate to be working at his airfield a few weeks ago when he decided to practice. Even with smoke off, watching what he could do with the Raven blew me away. --And keep in mind, I had just returned from covering Dayton, Oshkosh and Abbotsford, BC shows where some of the best of the best flew!I was one of the few photogs who had the unfortunate task of covering his crash at Salinas in '99. I then watched him return to the show in 2000 to thank everyone for their support. In 2001 he came back to Salinas as a participant riding on the back of a camel. The show was on 9/16 and all aircraft were still grounded after 9/11. What he and all the other performers did for the community that weekend brought everyone to tears. In 2002, he was at the show again watching one of his students, Nick Nilmeyer perform for the first time. Finally, in 2003 he completed the circle and performed once more. What a thrill!Anyway, glad to hear you had a good time. That's what Salinas is all about!Cheers,Tysonhttp://www.tvrphotography.com
