/serious mode on
The solution I found to the problem, which was not allowing me to connect MP thru the NAT. No amount of open ports, virtual servers, or firewall bypasses allowed me to connect to the 'Master Server.' However, the solution DOES require you to forward port 28960 UDP to your '192.168.xxx.xxx' address...I direct-connected the LAN port to the cable modem. This populated the server list, which I then quit the game, shutdown, and reconnected the Router. Since then, it has been groovy. Well, except for the small map inconvenience mentioned above This can be important to someone, as Activision DOES NOT support their games thru routers. (think "You could cheat US!")

...Bill opens/closes ports, starts virtual servers, bangs head enough to have YTREWQ show up on his forehead, launches router into the yard, setting a new State record for "Distance Throwing - Networking Equipment - Home", uninstall/reinstalls/reuninstalls, and connects via direct Modem connection. Yess!!! We have servers! Types into "Favorites" and keys in Cuda's server IP. ...and watches in helplessness as the connection counts....15...35...56...and timesout.... AUGHH!!! So, maybe its a LAN issue? Our anti-hero disables/reinables/runs Cat5 to new lan ports...fires everything back up....and connects to Cuda's server! ....15.....30....45....timeout.... AUGGHH!!! Repeat above scenario 5-7 times, with similar results.... AUGGGHHH!! 7thIn wanting to admit defeat, and tell the guys not to bother trying to help anymore, Bill logs onto the TXSquadron forum. And, on his way to the original post, he sees this....quote: CUDA: ...I had my server up for a while earlier today and noticed that several peeps joined but timed out. KINGSNAKE: It is because they don't have the maps and.....
The sound of Bill's jaw hitting the keyboard makes such a racket, that his Wife, vacuuming the bedroom upstairs, stops and wonders "what was that noise?" Bill, livid beyond belief at wasting 2+ hours trying to figure out the MP connection issues for a game, reaches into a drawer, and with the left hand he pulls the CoD CD from the CD tray, and with his right... starts beating the CD with a hammer!!.... "LET ME INTRODUCE JU TO MY LIL' FRIEND!!! **BLAM** **BLAMMITY-BLAM-BLAM**{from upstairs} "Honey, are you ok?" Are you tawhkin to me? ARE JU TAWHKEEN TO ME???I'm going back to Ghost Recon....~Bill

Roger that, Deck. Please, humor me with obviousness... heheh. No, that was not it either. I was doinking around, and 4 servers showed up for a *moment* But now they do not. Looking like I might have to try and direct-connect to the Cable modem. Seeker, I saw *nothing* on the install CD's for Gamespy. I can't remember having to agree to install it, so I am gonna rule that out. ~Bill

good questions, both! Seeker - No, I bet I don't have Gamespy installed. I'll check that. Cuda - Xp and Router; Check! Got'em both. Understand that some people have problems with COD and NAT's. Nice. Like NAT's are a *new thing? I must profess I find their online interface a tad confusing. Doh! ~Bill

Guys,
When I start up MP, it has no servers in it. OK, so when I hit 'refresh', I get a message "waiting for master server.' Are that's it. *sigh* Settings are Internet>Cable, and yes I bought the CD. No cracks or mods installed.
Suggestions?

Well, remember first that most jobs get ya hired on with 85% ATTITUDE and 15% SKILL. !! Skill can be learned...The beauty of it is, once you learn one language, then the next one is easier, etc. So all is not lost if you go the wrong way. Ha! Truthfully, C++, Java, and such are not easy to learn. Best bet would be to learn some Visual Basic type coding, and then work into the harder stuff. Check the papers, and see who they are looking for. SAP is one of the top payers, but without experience, ya aint gonna get it. That is some *serious* programming stuff. Hehheh. MS Degrees. Kinda like icing. About it. I saw some guys with enough degrees to boil water with cardboard signs in their hands saying "Will program for food" during the dot.com bust 2 years back. Guess what guys are still willing to work cheep? ~Bill

Question: Did you check (and clear) the Temp Folders? Also, try going into the BIOS and reseting it. Do the Drives light up, or open? Do you have any yellows or reds in Device Manager?Try pluggin in the CD-RW on the HDD ribbon cable. WHAT is the name of the brand of Power Supply that you have?It could be as simple as replacing that. ~Bill ~Bill

Almost forgot, Flightrisk. If that is still too rich, then I would heartily suggest that you invest your cash in a nice ATI 9600 card instead. The ATI cards kick the pants off the Nvidia cards in the image quality area. A high frame rate is sweet, but NOT if your canopy pillars look like stairsteps!! The 9600, while not the barn burner, smokes most of the competition. Plus, the fact remains that Nvidia is having hardware issues with the new games coming out, since their claims of DirectX 9 compliance have proven ill-gained. Its pretty bad when the software company Valve, which is about to publish Half-Life 2, comes out and calls your product (Nvidia) "Crap." ~Bill

Darn! I was too slow. Seems that Best Buy has the ATI 9800 PRO on sale for $399, but there is a $100 M.I.R. with it as well! I got my B.B. M.I.R. for a Maxtor drive in under 4 weeks.... ATI sucks, huh? Gee. It looks pretty *awesome* on my machine. Plus the one I just built. Would on FL-Bomblast's machine too, if the guy would just send me some money to build it! But I have been buggin him for years. Aint gonna happen. HA! Seriously. Black Death track at 1280x920x32, AA=4, AF=8, all settings highest except perfect. Avg: 31.308 - Min: 14 - Max: 68 on FRAPS. Every once in awhile I have Bomblast tell me about "Jaggies." Fun story. No clue what he is talking about though..... ~Bill
