...from the laptop to ya'll....

Because VoiceWing is provided over the Internet, customers can choose a
phone number from an extensive list of area codes in 139 markets in 33
states and the District of Columbia; they do not have to live in the area
 code they select.

VoiceWing provides customers traditional services such as voice mail,
caller ID and call waiting, plus advanced features that provide
unprecedented control of their communications when they access a special
Web page called the Personal Account Manager. With these features customers
 can:

-- manage calls and voice mail from their computers or phones,
-- create logs itemizing all call activity,
-- schedule call forwarding and call backs for a specific time and day,
-- use click-to-dial features from their computer, and
 -- access other advanced services.

The service allows customers to make unlimited local and long-distance
calls within the United States and certain territories and to benefit from
 low per-minute international calling rates.

Verizon Online DSL customers can get VoiceWing for $29.95 per month for the
first six months and $34.95 thereafter. Users of other broadband services
will get an introductory price of $34.95 per month for the first six months
and $39.95 thereafter. Customers must order the service by Oct. 31 to take
 advantage of the introductory offers.

.....I'm headed to the fiber I guess....

Yeah Cuda, right now the industry is in a flat spin and in flames.  Voip is a looks to be the future and there is not much profit in it, so every month companies let a few more people go and resellers like that one pop up.  I am already on the fiber transport side which so far has kept me employed but I see what they are doing.   These guys are spending millions of dollars to upgrade to Wide band Dxc’s, long haul amplifiers, remote access just to cut manpower costs?  Although they got me busting my arse at the moment, (laid off I to many last time) I know what they are really up too. ...rgr that Chukar. We were talking about that this morning in Engineering and what VoIP customers are going to do down here when we get the Hurricane that is coming (eventually) and we all lose power. Cell towers in most cases have generators to stay up for a while, but when that T-1 goes down it takes the cell site with it. CATV as far as I know does not have any backup power in the event of an outage. Good old copper from the Central Office to the house will work as long as the poles stay up and the falling trees don't take out the cable. In the office where I am right now we of course have the battery back up...then the generators are downstairs with 900 gallons of diesel to run for quite a while. ....it was shown to me this morning by a friend that works in Engineering that up north where VoIP companies such as Vonage and another company are aggressively selling they are losing over 700 phoneline customers a month!....one saving grace I guess is that here south of Houston the growth is going on at such a tremendous pace that we can't place the copper and fiber fast enough to keep up...guess I might be able to retire here in ten years or so unless they come up with something else that really shakes up the industry.TX-Cuda"Cooking this weekend:Briskets,Yard-Bird,Dolphin,and maybe a turkey"Margaritas at 22:00

Isn't VoIP teamspeak on a handset cradle? We are ahead of the times, unlimited long distance conference calls.
