To Shadow:
Check out how this early model was shipped. . .
I have heard of other people also needing to file down the protective plate to bring the Heatsink closer to the GPU. IF your having issues after a little while of gameplay, It's worth a look to see if a: the fan is working. b: there is enough/any thermal compund on the gpu, and c: the heatsink is able to make good contact to the GPU.

And this is cool, a single tool to clear out all old drivers, be them ati or nvidia, and some techniques for reinstallation. . . though I am not sure if it is only for Dell machines. . so investigate before diving in. (note that they recommend dx9. .so does ubi tech support. . but I have heard so many terrbile things about that upgrade im steering cleer . . . for now)

Eco, Thanks for the post. Nice article. I may just go ahead this weekend and attempt to switch it back out. Ill check the card carefully.I definitely think the 9700 is a better card than the ti4600 now that ive used them both for a while each. :-)S~Cya up there...TX-ShadowWhite 3

Man, Im not gonna tell ya what to do , thats for sure , but how much is it ?Its not the 256 meg card ? Hmm , well , just get over the Nvidia thing , trust me. :-) This 4600 has been stable though , but just nowhere near as capable of refreshing the high res high pace of what we do here. ATI is the only way in the long run , but like I said before , I ran it in DX9 and didnt have any trouble with that , except for the fact that I think that is what caused the config.ini to go corrupt now and again. That was my only complaint about using the DX as opposed to the OpenGL. So , i just set the app up the way I wanted it and made a backup copy of the conf.ini and I was ready to roll. My real issue with the card was the overheating. I will check it carefully this time , and pickup a pci slot cooler to help the card keep cool as well.Anyway , what was the price of the card ?S~Cya up there...TX-ShadowWhite 3

they are 399.99 at compusa (I only found one cheaper for 370 at some unknown online retailer) which is the lower end, and go all the way up to 490 at them higher end, but the cards are all the same right now. . based right off the refference design. This is for the 128 DDR version, the 256 which might be out as soon as the next two months is suspected to be starting at 499.00 and going up from there (oof) BUt I guess you can figure teh price will drop fairly quickly. . . . it just means waiting maybe 4 months from now. .  .it seems cheap if you think about just paying $2 a day to have a nice set up, but thinkign any other way it starts to get ugly fast!!!

Shadow tries to coerce his squadmate to get in his car and get that supercharger for his aircraft so that he too can experience the high res , high fps rate that it will offer. If it messes with you , you can always return it and tell them that it is shorting your system. :-) You have 14 days ,  just make sure you treasure the receipt.Shadow holds his breath in anticipation.......

Yes manford, we are here. This thread, Gentlemen, is a fine example of what we like to call  "EGV".I'll leave it up to Zen to complete the definition for everyone.TX-Deck out.

OK. . . I decided to wait until 256 mb comes out, as that will probably lower this ones price. I looked at my schedule and realized I am not even really gonna be able to fly for a month anyway, and ATI claimed that is should be out this month. But dont think that this means your efforts of coersion were wasted on me Shadow, this gave me some food for thought!S!TX-BabbleDragon

EGV= Executive Gadget VirusIt's a phenomenon commonly seen in corporate meeting rooms. One guy sits down and pulls out a palm pilot, starts tapping away. A week later everyone has them because you know how executives are. An admin assistant sees you drop off a flat panel monitor to a coworker, someone else gets a cellphone with a super cool headset, another gets an Ipaq...it goes on and on. Video games do not drive technology, corporate shmucks do when they see what the other guy has. When you hear your squadmates picking up 256mb video cards and you get the itch...you have it too. EGVIt's a fickle and dangerous thing and is something that altruists and monks have no business jacking with. So, how much are the 256mb cards lately?TX-ZenBlack 6TX Squadron CO

www.newegg.com has the GeForce FX5900 in stock and the 5900 Ultra (256 megs of ram version) is due in within the week. THe prices at newegg are a little higher than what you might find at other online retailers, but they will offer you an RMA for the full warranty period of the card. . cant beat that insurance. ( I owned a GF4Ti4600 for 9 months. . and got most of its value back when it died, and am now putting that towards this one)S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX Squadron XO
