Had a thought last night as I drifted off to peaceful Zen slumber. You could use a frazzled Q-tip and a bit of sponge to dab black paint on the plane to achieve that mottled look from the skin. I recall now that about 20 years ago I used to be a pretty decent painter for models and learned how to do all kinds of little things like that. The main thing about the black from the skins is the mottled randomness, but it has a density that flows in a pattern, different for each plane though. I create it based on the area size that I'm working with and just go with the flow. I bet with some practice you could achieve the same or similar effects by painting directly on the model but I agree with you that a brush will be too defined and won't have that faded look of the airbrush. Probably need to do the dabbing first then airbrush a light swath over it all.I think it's off to a good start though, be very interested to see the custom decals you were talking about and watching the thing all come together. This has inspired me to run out and pick up a D9 too :)Salute! Looks good so far senior' RahTX-ZenBlack 6

Another thought,You could also create a template out of paper or something more sturdy with the camo pattern you wanted, then rather than holding it directly on the plane as you airbrush, you could hold it just above the plane. That will give some dispersion when the paint reaches the plane and I think that by holding the airbrush at a much greater distance from the template, you'll be able to control the density of what ends up on the plane. It should probably be pretty light spatterings I suspect. Moving the template around and changing the distance sprayed from could create an overlapping effect also. TX-ZenBlack 6

Zen,           Had thought of the cutout pattern thing after I already had the plane pretty much painted.  The problem with all of this is...it's a 1 shot deal...I won't repaint it if I screw it up....  Scared to try something on a plane that already looks "ok"....  I'll try it on another piece of plastic first maybe.... ;)Regards,TX-Rahman"BLUE 2"

you know I have a buddy... like my best friend around here that is a competitive train modeler. You know he tought me long ago that if ya screw up the paint on a plastic model just drop it in Automotive brake fluid. It takes the paint right off......wont hurt the glue or plastic........and the kicker is it water soluble so it breaks right down with a bit of warm water and a light touch of dish soap. Guaranteed the paint slides right off and won't hurt your plastic.S~TX-FlightRisk Black 3

Sweet deal FR!!   I'm about to finish the B-17 for the dude in Austin, and he is going to issue a Corsair to me when we make the hand-off.   I've got a boatload of 1/32" basswood coming this week to sheet the entire model with.  Did I ever mention I hate sanding?  I've made some progress on my 1/5 scale Long-Ez as well, pictures/thread to appear soon.Say Rah, now that you have a garage (assuming), why not step up to the balsa kits and give them a whirl?    I know, I know, one thing at a time, finish the 109 first.   Looking good sir!TX-Deck out.

Ok, all this talk about models got me wanting one. So, I went out today and bought a 1/72 scale Bf109G-14, and a 1/32 scale FW190F-8.I spent over an hour browsing the 6 shelves trying to decide what to get. Couldn't narrow it down to one, lol. I'm suprised I didn't leave with five or six of 'em. I passed up a Ta-152 H-1, Ju88c, He-111H-6, P-39N Russain Ace, Ki-84, La-7 and the plethera of P's and B's...These will be my first ever models. Looks like fun!S!TX-Seeker
