NewView -  Sounds pretty cool.

It's supposed to pan your view as you move your stick.  For example if you pull back on the stick it should pan your view up to see around the corner so to speak.  The harder the pull the more panning you get.

Looks like i have to reformat this weekend so I will try it after that.  Was wondering though if anybody has tried this yet.

I'm interested, but not willing to try it just yet. I tend to lose all my bearings when not looking at the gunsight. SO, give it a go and post a review for us! BTW, you might want to try it before you reformat in case you don't want to keep it. Just a thought.

Before you try this or anything that mods your controls and views, create a new pilot and copy your ini file to the new pilot you created. That way you have a backup of your settings in case you go fubar. copy the ini file from Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Users\doeto Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Users\doe1the ini file has all the control maping for your external hardware, keyboard, skin and weapon selections by plane. I've been using NewView V2.6 with HOTAS Cougar for about 2 months now and I really like it!Took a while to re-configure HOTAS/NewView/IL2FB to a functional arrangment for me.   The head/view movement during manuvering is great, until you try to shoot while zoomed in to the gunsight (too much movement). The configuration I finally settled on uses the Dogfight switch in the following manner:Center - Normal views with newview "centering" enabled (head/view moves with joystick movement)Left - (Dogfight) Maximum Zoom with "non-center" vew enabled (fixed view, no movement with joystick input)Right - External Chase view for difficulty settings which allow itAnyway, I find it usefull but wonder if a real TrackIR would be better.  The hardest thing for me master is keeping sight of fast-tracking enemy aircraft at certain angles with the HAT switch. Anyway, I don't post much but thought since I had used NewView for a while now I'd wiegh in.....Summary...works great with Cougar if you take the time to set it up to your liking.

Howdy Gunslinger,Thanks for posting.  You know I tried it and loved the way it works but I could not get the Cougar to run in Button & Axis Emulation mode and that was unacceptable to me, but it looks like you got it figured out eh?  I sure would be interested in how you did that.

Hello Chukar!Pls pardon the delay in my response....wanted to finalize my current setup so I could provide you with my config files for NewView, Cougar and IL2FB and I was out on travel last week.Enlosed you will find 5 files:1. default.ini - /IL-2 Sturmovik/Forgotten Battles/Users2. NPClient.ini - /NewViewV26English/3. CougarJoyIL2FBfighter.bmp4. Forgotten_battles_jmc.tmj5. Forgotten_battles_jmc.tmmFiles 3,4,5 of course go to /Foxy/FilesThe hard thing about NewView is that you are inserting it between the Cougar Macro commands and the IL2FB Keystroke Assignments and of course NewView has it's own requirements for special keys and such.Anyway, I think the best way for me to explain how I got things working is to send you these files to examine, or if you like test out (of course if you want to do that pls make sure you backup your current config files first). I'm sure you know this but maybe a reminder does'nt hurt. Notes:COUGAR MACRO AND JOYSTICK FILES1. These are highly modified versions of Oliver "Red Dog" Beaumont's original joystick and macro files for IL2FB. I wanted a Cougar setup which was optimized for single engine aircraft. I mainly fly FW-190/ME-109 aircraft. I don't need bombsight/multiple engines etc etc.....2. Wanted to place all engine commands on the throttle and as much of everthing else on the Joystick. Think that it's much more natural that way...and wanted view related commands all around each other (H1/H3)3. Incorporated Nostromo speed pad for comm's (removed all comm commands from original joystick file and programmed Nostromo to comm settings. I'm currently thinking about shifting C.E.M coommands to the speedpad but still have'nt convinced myself it's worth the effort. In any event, if you don't have a Notromo then don't worry, there are'nt any commands specific to it in any of the files. It's more an explanation of why I don't have comm's programmed on the Cougar.New View Config FileTook me quite a while to get this setup to the point where NewView operated in a seamless fashion with the Cougar, without adding any more keyboard commands. I basically wanted my view to shift around with joystick input while flying (whole point of NewView), but wanted stability while aiming and shooting. The key was to remap the gunsight view, without joystick movement effecting view (stablized) to the DOGFIGHT switch on the Cougar....When you have the T7/T8 switch in the middle position (normal), your view shifts with Joystick input......when you switch to the leftmost position, the NewView centering is disabled (no movement) and the FOV goes to maximum Zoom. When you switch back to the middle position, your view bounces around again in the direction of joystick movement.IL2 config fileWell, now we have both New View and Cougar needing special command assignments the Control keys in FB become pretty complicated, so I just thought I'd save you the trouble.Well, in summary, I really like this basic arrangment but there is much room for improvment. Would love some feedback, particularly concerning the C.E.M. assignements... there is probably a better way......remember I don't fly the Allied planes much, and they have a bit more C.E.M than German fighters....
