Well, I'm not sure how many of you know but over the weekend a Wildcat crashed after the airshow. Here is the story -  http://www.fayettevillenc.com/story.php?Template=region&Story=5950885
From this story it happened Sat. about a hour or 2 after the show was over.

:'-(The CAF is an amazing organization which I was proud to work with, everyone in the group was dedicated, profesional, and above all loved aviation and historic aircraft. The loss of pilot is a tradgedy, the loss of the aircraft is unfortunate, but the work that the CAF does to restore and to bring us these aircraft is greatly appreciated by so many, S! to the CAF, and Mr. Johnson.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX Squadron XO

Is this the second WWII plane to crash this year? Was the He-111 that crashed earlier this year part of the CAF? I am a history buff. I drove a historic vehicle untill recently. I had to store it because it was a death trap on wheels. The fuel tank was leaking and the drive line was eccentricly shaking and about to mash into the gas tank. The power steering would go out and I would manually steer the 18 foot long beast with all my might. Every month was a paycheck chunk spent on repairs and a new 'I almost died when' story. Owning a historic vehicle is fun. You turn more heads than a boobjob in a porche. If historic aircraft have anything in common with historic automobiles the risk and price are high.TX-KingsnakeWhite >+

I was saddened to hear of this loss, but at the same time I became concerned.  A personal friend of the family is one of the pilots in the CAF and the Tora Tora Tora troup, and I was glad to hear that he wasn't the pilot that went down.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the pilot who lost his life, and his family as well.I wasn't aware my friend was a pilot of the simulated Japanese aircraft until after I left the WOH airshow last year.   From what I understand, he actually flew his aircraft in the recent movie "Pearl Harbour".  I meant to get to the field early this year to get in touch with him, but for various reasons by the time I arrived they had already performed, and most flew out shortly thereafter.   Looks like I'm going to have to try a little harder than my previous efforts to contact him.TX-Deck out.
