I wasn’t going to do it, 50 bucks for and FPS game, never before.   I don’t know what came over me but I broke down and grabbed one off the shelf.

First impressions…ok its pretty cool.  Quickly took the enemy by surprise and got them on the run, chasing them between the houses – very cool.   Working your way through the rubble and with height advantage looking down on an active triple A crew protected by a heavy machine gun team – awesome.  Really got the adrenalin going,   Alright, I’m sold.

Now, to take it online which patch do I need?  1.2 or 1.3? ( I downloaded 1.2 from Decks site )   And then I take you need common maps, which ones will be essential? Then where to get it all.   I would like to get myself up to date so I can get into some action tomorrow night.

I think the patch is 1.2 last I checked. The best place to get maps is www.redsbox.net or from our ftp. Before you install custom maps install cod a second time on another drive letter. This will keep a pure version of the game on the other drive letter so you can play single player and pure servers online. Single player is really good in this game. It is worth the extra hard drive space. 50$ is a lot for the game, I think you can get it for less online, but with shipping and waiting it might be about the same. When you go to redsbox to get the cod maps they come in a self extracting exe zip file. Run the self executing zip and point it to the "main" folder. The maps are pk3 files, which is a zip file with the extension renamed to pk3. If this gets confusing just remember that the pk3 files may or may not be zipped a second time. Just make sure you put the pk3 files in the 'main' directory. I suggest the c drive be the one you add custom maps to and the d drive be your pure version. Also grab the mods from reds box. The mods go in the same place as the pk3 maps.  Spend some time with single player before you go online. I think you should make it past Brecourt or Dawnville before you play online. Otherwise you will get slaughtered. If you want to join via ip copy clip the ip with cntrl C  open multiplayer hit the ~ key this is the console prompt. Then type connect and hit cntrl V to paste the ip. Hit enter and you will join. Reds box is a great server to join via ip.TX-KingsnakeWhite 1

Easiest way to get the maps running on our server... right here:ftp://www.txsquadron.com/CoDMaps/(copy and paste link into new browser)In my opinion the solo missions are some of the best I've seen in the WWII fps genre, shoot em up and enjoy.  As Kingsnake said, definitely recommended to play thru the single-player campaign first, and then I would expect to get completely owned when you go online.  That way your expectations, in my opinion, are completely realistic and you won't be totally p.o'd with the first server you hop into.  After a couple nights online you'll probably be getting the hang of it and breaking even - if not better - on your kill/death ratios.Father-in-law is coming into town this weekend, got snowed in last time they tried to make it down.   We'll more than likely be online in CoD Saturday night, cya out there.TX-Deck out.

.....glad to see you got CoD and some sound advice from both Kingsnake and Deck. I have uploaded a good pile of maps to the TX FTP but the ones that you most likely will use are at the Redsbox site that was mentioned in the previous posts. I would love to join Ya'll tomorrow night online but alas I am still without cable(%$@#!@!) modem. Best guess is that I'll be back online sometime next week....until then it's single player and work around the house....TX-Cuda...one Shot...One KILL!

I've found that redbox renames its maps just slightly...you'll have it, but not be able to join other servers running it.As for pure etc.....I just don't play on em....too much work for this simplton to run multiple game version. I'm hooked on CoD HQ....LOVE it, and i'm a regular suspect on the Chicago 100mb server (ip 69.28.221.69)Follow Kings advice and setting up tho, and you won't go wrong, and hook up with us on the TX server......it's a blast!!!Glad you forked over the moola....don't think you will regret it.P.S....I might be wrong about the redbox maps....coulda confused that with other custom maps i've dl'd.S~
