In contrast to the flight simulator, the first person shooter is an atmosphere conducive to twitching trigger finger and frag fiestas. Generally speaking this is the dissuading aspect of a fps game and therefore what has always made flight simulators more to my liking. The use of tactics in the flight sim and the organization provided by TX-Zen lends a professional element to the game play that I find rewarding in contrast to the futility of the chaotic slaughter and gore in the fps game.

The great TX-Zen took me aside one day to explain the basics of infantry tactics. Soon we were taking top rank in the fps servers with the teamwork and coordination of TX-Zen’s command. Time and time again we see how those with real flight experience outclass those without wings. I see this in the Call of Duty servers where people with weapons training again taking the top slots in the score charts. TX-Copper has weapons training and TX-EcoDragon has a pilot’s license. This illustrates my point that those with the training are superior.

I open this forum thread for the squad and the public to post infantry tactics and resources to self training. Instead of holding a weekly training where someone is burdened with a syllabus and conducting training I propose this forum as a place where those that are interested may conduct a self guided enrichment on the subject of infantry tactics. Please avoid bumping this thread with irrelevant information and keep it limited to questions and contributions on the topic of infantry tactics. For those that have experience  with weapons, combat, paint ball, or fps gaming, please give us your thoughts. I would like to develop a tactical jargon that accommodates a fluid gaming experience. Ideally this would abbreviate the comms chatter and make us more effective. How should one clear a room? What are the steps to take in moving together as one element? How do a sniper and spotter work? What is the best way for a 2 man team to turn a corner?

Thanks for the plug Kingsnake, although I feel you over-rated me.  My official weapons training mainly consists of the semi-auto handgun, and its limitations.  Along with the handgun training (shooting, stance, range effectivness etc) we are trained in entering rooms, approach and so on.  My experience with long arms is mainly thru hunting...I own a parkerized 1942 Mark 3 .303, 16 guage, and squires semi .22.I can give tips on some things though that might help in fps games.....some tactics we are trained in, and maybe some or all of you know them already.First is the Israeli peek.  This consists of quick peeks around a corner...and i mean quick....maybe at mid level, then again crouching etc.  You actually see quite abit, while the enemy might not even see you, and you're able to safely scan ahead of you.Secondly, and one I believe is the best, is slicing the pie.To do this, you approach a corner, but instead of huggiing it and peeking around a corner, you instead move away from the wall, all the time watching the corner and beyond.  If you do this properly, you will see your enemy entirely, and he won't see you.  Try it with a friend.  You tell him to call out when he see's you.  You will not only see him first, you will also have your weapon trained on him and be ready to shoot.  Works great. For CoD....I use both of these, as well as crouching alot, as your footsteps are non-existent.  I also feel playing medal of honor in a clan for the last 2 years helps me alot. The frag-fest you speak of I usually only find in the deathmatch/tdm servers, and I avoid them for that reason.  I also use a rifle more then the auto's, as I believe this improves your aim and skill, making you ultra leathal when you switch back to a smg/mg.I also have a voracious appetite for anything military, and eat up anything I can watch on t.v etc, paying attention to what real infranty do.I doubt I did nothing more then ramble on, but hope something I said helped.Look forward to some CoD nights with you guys improving team tactics!!S!TX-Copper

....good points amde in both the above posts. One thing I noticed with CoD is that it is usually much easier to get the kill using a rifle vs the auto's as the lethality seems to be upped a bit. Also if you are using the larger German auto you can switch it from full auto to semi rate of fire and this helps keep muzzle climb to a minimum. Hope to be back online soon!TX-Cuda...one Shot...One KILL!

I read the sniper thread and the next day I am taking first place almost every time. I know that won't last long. I'm not bragging about anything, I'm stating that reading and using the tactics really helps. I used the line of sight tactics mentioned in the following post. TX-KingsnakeWhite 1

Original post from iwnation.com by nacho"when i play MP games there's a lot of controversy going on between people that don't like snipers and people that do. the mainr eason for people not liking them is obviously that they get sniped quite often. i hardly ever get sniped even on the snow maps. i usually either get naded or shot up by the automatics. here's what i do to avoid those snipers:(NOTE: i don't play TDM, DM, or BEL. this is for SD and RE. when i say "sniper" i mean anyone firing from a concealed and mostly stationary position. not necessarily some guy with a scoped rifle. someone with an MP 44 can be called a sniper if he's killing your guys from a long ranged concealed position.)the maps are designed in such a way that you can easily find defilade between you and where enemy snipers are usually positioned. if you move from cover to cover (i know it sounds cheesy, but it really works) then your chances of staying alive to get to the enemy position increase drastically.watch your teammates around you and in front of you. if you see a guy get taken out right next to you by a rifle, you might want to find some cover because you're probably next. i know it sounds mean, but if guys want to run out in an open area, let them, and see if the way is clear to proceed or not.and finally, make your movements unpredictable. if necessary, stay behind a rock for 30 seconds and wait for the sniper on you to lose interest or get killed waiting for you. a sniper is going to pick the target that is the most threat to him at the moment. he will more than likely shoot someone running out in the open rather than waiting for someone hiding in a ditch to come crawling out. and also guys, bunnyhopping is not going to really help your situation if a sniper has you in his sights. i know when i'm a sniper and someone jumps up and down a lot, he's just begging me to shoot him. and i usually do with a nice solid chest or head shot. it's better to try and outflank a sniper than to charge at him jumping up and down like a fool.i know that these tactics might seem elementary and a given for a lot of you, but the more i play, the more i see people not follow these guidelines and end up getting shot from long distances virtually every round. try the above guidelines first, and THEN complain if you're getting shot every round. either you'll not have the sniper problem anymore, like me, or i must be really really lucky in every game i play. just some advice guys. hope it helps. Good information Kingsnake, thanks.I've noticed that the probability of staying alive increases dramatically in servers with fewer than 15-20 people.   Less "eyes" looking for targets I suppose.TX-Deck out.

....good points to be had from that post on "sniping" be it with a scoped rifle,MP44, or any iron sighted rifle. I was on the A$D server and was killing the crap out of the opponents from a concealed spot with a non scoped KAR and was warned to either get moving or be BANNED from the server. Guess that clan doesn't like it handed to them on a platter on a killfest/fragfest type server especially if they are the ones getting killed.......TX-Cuda...one Shot...One KILL!

Just so you guys know. Being a gun fanatic... I have had personal training in both the combat 45 auto, the FN-FAL and several other guns. From personal experience I will tell you that although the tactics are close (scary close at Times) if you follow the handgun techniques you will live most of the time... If you follow rifle or sniper techniques they will call you a camper and ban you even though you can kill more than any of them. Take it or leave it.I feel that only entrance techniques are good in all areas of combat in this game. Act as if you are carrying a MP5K and you have a crack head behind the wall....My 12 CentsRickS~TX-FlightRisk Green 3

....good point TX-FR. I was almost banned from the A4D server because I was using an iron sighted rifle from a good hiding place...was killing them when they came at me "spraying and praying" before they even knew where I was at...and was taking my time and taking them out. Like TX-Kingsnake stated in an above post...the servers where there aren't that many people, ie. (NON-KILLFESTS) are the better servers to get into. At least you have a chance to move from spawn point to a good place that you might call a "hiding" place.....and do what I am sure many infantrymen in WW2 did. Of course, if you have a squad behind you...or at least another team mate with you it makes it much better as your compadre can watch your back so to speak. Two eyes...or more for that matter are better than one.TX-CudaRecruiting Officer"...my boots are dry and my hopes are high"....
