F14 Tomcat

....what a coincidence Monguse! I was working Saturday morning way out in the sticks doing some rehab work on a piece of old cable that runs in front of the Texas City RC Clubs' field. I was up on my ladder re-working a bad splice and listening to the planes fly and every once in a while I would spot on as it flew above the stand of pine trees between the runway and the road. I was taking a break with a big glass of ice water when I heard the unmistakable sound of a turbine spooling up! I put the work on hold for about 30 minutes and walked back there to see what in the world they were getting ready to fly. The pilots had two birds that were turbine powered...one was called a "Jet Cat" which was a twin tailed affair with a wing span of about three feet and had a 40lb thrust engine. The other was what looked like a Soviet fighter of some sort that was much bigger. It had twin turbines that were somewhat bigger than the engine in the "cat". I learned quite a bit from my brief talk with the guys out there yesterday concerning the miniature jet engines and the restrictions that they have placed on them here in the States...and really enjoyed watching them fly those two birds.TX-Cuda
