....read this.........

So many times I've spectated people (after dying in SD, RE, etc  ) and have been shocked by the sounds that they did not catch. I would know they'd be shot in the back seconds before they are because of footsteps or gunfire.

Sight is important in FPS, but in a realistic game like CoD, sound is another sense that you should not ignore. People spend hundreds on a good video card, but how much do they spend on a good sound system? All you need is something with EAX. I spent 10 bucks and bought myself a SB live value. Once I started using EAX, people rarely sneak up on me anymore. Miles 2d just doesn't cut (unless you have surround sound, which I don't know anything about).

EAX simulates bone conduction, that's the difference in pitch due to sound waves propagating through your skull to your eardrums, resulting in your ability to tell whether a sound of equal intensity to both your ears comes from front, back, top, or bottom. With EAX, you can use your head like a radar, point to different directions and listen. It's quite effective in tracking down source of sniper fire. You can hear footsteps and know they are behind you, or below you.

Sound is also the best reason to pick up an enemy weapon. They don't suspect anything if they hear that familiar sound, in fact, they'll feel safe being near it, as it usually means a friendly is nearby. If you're going to do any kind of infiltration or flanking, get an enemy weapon.

Sound is a powerful tool. It's one of 2 senses you have in the game. Don't forget about it.

Sound is important and I agree with Cuda. I have seen the same thing he mentioned about using sound like radar. Headphones are the best for CoD. For example, a sniper rifle shot rings out and has a split second reverberation. When I snipe I listen for sniper fire. When I hear a shot I rapidly move my head from side to side maybe 2 - 4 times during the sound of the shot. With each move of my head I can pan the stereo perfectly in my headphones and I can triangulate the line of sight with my eyes closed or well concealed.  I don't have a great sound card, just fancy usb headphones. I see great surround sound setups that are really cool for emersion and effect, but not as precise as headphones for triangulation.TX-KingsnakeBlack 6

Here are some good basic rules. Your compass has green dots, everywhere there are not greendots, there are likely enemies. If you see green dots disapearing, this is NOT an invitation to go figure what is going on, your green dot will likely dissapear on someone elses compass if you do.If it takes 3 people to attack a building, and only you come out alive, the attack was not successfull.People move as sheep on these maps. If you see yuor team bunching up and heading somewhere, and there is another way to go... GO THE OTHER WAY.Often your team, and the enemy team just follow the herd. This is a BAD THING. DO NOT FOLLOW THE HERD.Grab a couple guys and make your own group. My most successfull ability in TDM is movement positioning. See where the enemy is engaging, circle around, and shoot them from behind. You have a MUCH higher chance of living through an engagment if you shoot someone from behind.Lets give an example. On Brecourt there is gun A and gun B (you can see lables in SD mode) many times germans will get bunched up at Gun B, and players will take the cow route, and the bunker from gun A to gun B route to reach the Germans.Sadly, this means that they engage the Germans from IN FRONT.Note, ALL THE GERMANS ARE FACING THIS WAY (mostly)The trick is to go to the other side, and then approach the German Position from behind.Go SLOW, take your time, and kill anyone that notices you. When you DO get behind an enemy position, DO NOT GO CRAZY AND JUST START SHOOTING.Take your time, kill each enemy with as few a shots as possible. This makes it so that they do not KNOW WHERE YOU CAME FROM (barring killcam ofc).I have had such an experience on MP_ROCKET as German attacking british players. My German ALlies were running PELL MELL over the fields, trying to outsniper the Allied players. I went in the bunker system, and quietly came behind the Allied position, this took extra time because I used the longest route possible to get there in the bunkers. When I came behind them I had 6 allied snipers arrayed in front of me, all proned and ready to destroy my freinds.I then walked up to two of them and hit them with my gun, then I took the rifle from one of them, and kill his teammates with his own rifle. The benefit is that they were hearing the rifles firing at all times, so another rifle pcking there teammates off while they were in a sniper trance didnt affect them at all. Also, another benefit, is that the enemy now is spawning near you, and you have a machine gun and position, you would be suprised the kind of kill sprees you can accrue when you have the enemy by the balls, and you know where they are going to spawn.TX-CudaMinister of Information
