My Wings Channel satisfaction has been fairly low for some time now as the programming tends to be based primarily on war footage (which usually re-runs most of the day) with very little focus on things relating to actual aviation, in particular modern aircraft, modern pilots, current events in engineering/design, aviation events such as airshows, competitions etc, modern pilot techniques and procedures, and very little programming about how the viewer can become involved in aviation. etc. Don't get me wrong, clearly a large part of aviation is tied into the military, but there was more to it, and despite what much of the programming suggests, there are in fact thigns going on *today* in aviaiton too! There are other channels that focus more on history, and the elements of wartime, there are no other channels that focus specificaly on aircraft.

I logged onto the Discovery.com site today to check programming as every now and then they televise events I am interested in, like the National Championship Air Races at Reno, the World Aerobatic Championships, EAA events, and Airshows, but usually these run at about 3 am Pacific Time so I have to record them if I want to see them.
When I did I saw a banner announcing that the Wings Channel will be no more, and that it will be replaced by the Military Channel. . . there goes my subscription.
I sent a rant to the feedback section, though clearly my interest in what’s going on today in aviation must be fairly rare as it doesn’t seem to warrant further programming.

Lame, real lame. The Hitler channel already does the military. I like wings because it showcases design. If you watch the wings channel, for example a show on the Russian design beuros like Mig or Yak or even the old X-planes,  you will hear the word 'design' more in one show than you will on the home design and garden channel. I am entertained by aircraft shows, but what I enjoy most is the design process. In my day job I am in architecture. The soviet era footage of row after row of drafting boards and engineers hashing out life and death design solutions in a no frills, no holds barred design process. In the pure definition of design one can see the process in buildings, aircraft, cars etc. Look at the amazing amount of variation and revision in the 109. Year after year they just made it better until it was out dated. I only get the chance to make something once and it has to be right the first time.  Current aviation design is cool too, don't pin me as a necrophile idolizing the rotting gods of aviation. I was fascinated by the civil effort to the edge of space. One thing is certain, there will be one less channel to fight over with Queensnake.TX-KingsnakeBlack 6
