From the Il2 website:

quote:

Hunter, what do you mean by preloading a/c in games?
- How do you do that? I play in a server that
- constantly gets spawn lag. Would love to fix
- that....

When designing a map and/or mission, place static planes (1 of each type) on the map, so each player's game has to keep these in memory. When someone switches planes, the AC is already in memory. That's all there is to it. Just a little extra effort in designing maps.

We must immediately try this out!!!!  It makes perfect sense, but I'm skeptical that a/the solution could be that simple.Regardless, good find Dreggs, and thanks for making an effort to research the issue.TX-Deck out.

It is worth a try. Anyone want to make a new map for the oc3? My FMB will not display the bases during flight in a dogfight map. This is why I stopped making maps and we are all flying the same maps over and over. Long ago I had a variety of parked planes on the runways. People wanted the sationary aircraft removed from the runway areas. Winter Stalingrad is as clean as a map can get, no ground objects at all. This is a strange solution. If there are a variety of planes in the air and most are flying in  a 5,3, 9, 109 190 or 39, in a server with 25+ players, that means almost every plane type is already in memory. How is adding a staionary aircraft going to change the spawn lag if all the planes are flying?Regards,TX-KingsnakeWhite 1

I think we ought to give it a try. We had different reasons for removing all of the parked planes from the map, which as I recall it was a bit difficult to navigate to the runway. Since Winter Bombers runs so well without AA I feel that we can probably add the parked aircraft without incurring lag, perhaps at an unused base somewhere or at one end of the runway. I think its worth a shot anyway...same old maps need a bit of dusting off. TX-Zen"Black 6"TX Squadron CO

I tried to create a map.  I too am having the problem with the airbases not showing up in game.  Wonder if its a 1.2 thing.Anyway...I put every single plane type at a neutral (none) base so no one could spawn into it (the furthest airbase from the engagement area).  I also made all the planes neutral (none) so that they wouldn't shoot at each other, and if anyone destroyed them, they wouldn't get points for it.Matter of fact, think I am going to head out now and uninstall IL2 and reinstall to see if it might help me get the map icons back for the bases.S~TX-CageBlack 5
