So I was at work one day and went out to smoke a butt.  The forward hatch of the portside "break" was open, I had my camera, and this is what I saw:

2nd exposure a few seconds later:

...darn sure wasn't one of the HELO's I used to fly in!! We were expendable.......Go figure out how you should drop a "NUKE" torp on a target and beat feet outa there while making 150kts and get into the safe zone????I'll take a fast mover any day now!TX-CudaMinister of Information

...WAIT!!! I know what that pic is!!That is a series of pics that show the multiple shots made from surface targets trying to hit the drone that is incoming. Since the darn ordinancemen didn't make sure everything was up to snuff they had to fire multiple times to take out the drone????J/K!!TX-CudaMinister of Information

...Gunslings, the missile that is on the port side of the pic looks like it is searching for a target that just isn't there.....look at pic one and then pic two...the trajectory changes but looks like no target aquired........just my take..TX-CudaMinister of Information

Well, You're all close but:Those are SM-2MR, the primary "punch" of the Aegis Combat System.  Cuda was closest, so he wins the booby. The missile on the left, well, it has "issues".  It's lost track and ref to pic 2, is self-destructed on the other side of that cloud.  I was trying so hard to get pictures of the "group" that I did'nt notice the little "flower" until it was too late to shoot it.Of course there are multiple ships here...that could very well have been an engagement against another threat....(but then you'd usually see two birds).Well, 1 in 6 ain't bad.  There were a lot of firings this day.  3 DDG's and one CG (think 122 launch cells per ship).  This was just one. There was'nt just one target drone, there were many!  This was a live fire engagement against mulitple inbound high-Mach targets. All I can say is:  System works like a charm....  Sometime, look up on the web how many inbound airplanes, missiles or whatever that this system can engage simultaneously.   The radar system is the AN/SPY-1Anyway, I was digging up old pictures for posting a while back and came across these....thought you'd find them interesting...Thanks for playing ..S~Black 2 TX Flight Leader
