Sadly, on July 15th of 2005 Rote 7 was seriously damaged on landing, though luckly the pilot and his lazy feet survived. the aircraft was apparently not insured, and a donation collection has been started to rebuild the aircraft.here are the stories and pics on ithttp://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/spendenaufruf_rote7.phpScroll down on this page for many more pics: http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/php-uebersicht/ueberlebende-ausgabe.php?flugzeug=83This is the funky translation from Altavista:On Friday those made, meanwhile by several flight days in Europe well-known Messerschmitt BF 109 G-4 "red 7" of the ME air company (MAC) from Albstadt, with the landing a heavy break for the 15.07.2005. Fortunately thereby the pilot and joint owner Siggi Knoll were not hurt. The damage to the machine, which was unfortunately not insured, amounts to according to first estimations about 100,000 euro. At first it was unclear whether the MAC will tackle the reconstruction of the 109. By the enormous zuspruch and donation readiness of the Fan's from all world, the mounting plate my shank struggled through itself now to dare the reconstruction. Therefore by the joint owner, Werner Grammel, a donation account was furnished. Please you send your donations for the reconstruction of the "red 7" to the following account: Donation account: "reconstruction of the ME 109" account number: 113,429 7991 bank code number: 653,512 60 Kreditinstitut: Savings bank Zollernalb BIC: SOLADES1BAL IBAN: DE42653512601134297991S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

The 190 took off at a 3 point? The tail never lifted? Any comments on that Echo?As for the 109 thats is a shame, but just how stupid can one be not to insure something like that? I'm not entirelysure the same group would deserve a chance to rebuild it. Being that unresponsible. Stupid things happen and stuff gets broken but, not having a way out after it does short begging the fans for more money is a farse. The fans would IMO understand not flying it, at such a risk. Just plane stupd if you ask me.See Ya in the Sky's !!!!!!

Yeah, I don't know the details of those guys with Red 7, it's a real shame, and after seeing some of the other videos of this pilot's landings in it I'm not all that surprised to see it in this condition. The 109 needs a pilot who is really on their toes. . . in particular in a blustery crosswind. As far as the three point departure, they are sometimes done when there is concern about the reduced prop clearance, the magnitude of gyroscopic effects of the prop when lifting the tail, or other ground tracking issues, or most proabbly it was a limitation on the speed that the landing gear can remain extended that limited the aircraft to a speed very near climb speed which the pilot didn't want to exceed. Of course the aircraft must be capable of a 3pt departure in its current configuration. This means that the 3 pt attitude is at a lower angle of attack than the critical angle of attack (stall attitude) as it most often is. . . though not by much. Additionally the aircraft needs sufficient thrust to weight/drag to keep it acceleratingor climbing even in a draggy condition such as the 3pt attitude. In this case the aircraft was minimally loaded, and it had plenty of power to fly it off in an otherwise high drag condition. There is of course some elevated risk of what might happen with an engine failure, or a gust of tailwind/loss of headwind. Also keep in mind that it may not have been entirely deliberate, if the thrust was high enough that the aircraft began to fly as the pilot prepared to lift the tail then the pilot would not force the tail up and fight the aircraft, instead you would let it rise into ground effect and let it accelerate to Vy (best rate of climb speed). My first takeoff in the Extra  was just like this, I didn’t expect to be at flying speed so soon (real soon in the Extra), I didn’t even have a chance to get the throttle lever to the firewall or the tailwheel to lift before it wanted to fly, so I let her go. If your main point was that it's hard to do in the sim 190, well, put simply the induced drag is high relative to the thrust available in Oleg's 190's and the power of the Antons in particular has always seemed a bit low to me. Of course, these are not minimally loaded, they have armor, additional fuel tanks filled with additional fuel, carrying armament and guns etc. Also worth pointing out is the fact that in the real world there is greater ease in getting the tailwheel well low of the mains when landing (in most tailwheel aircraft), whereas in the sim things get a little strange when you lower the tail much below the main gear. Oh and lastly, most sim pilots takeoff and land at too high of a speed in the first place, if they are not comfortable at lower speeds they will often do wheel landings as well as departures. Nope wasn't worried about the game reasons. I figured the reason they did it was an accident or showing off the Horsepower of the beast. Thanks for being so thorough :)See Ya in the Sky's !!!!!!

I also must admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for the 109.  My favorite plane by far..  So gorgeous she actually borders on being ugly.  What a powerful beast...  Actually seeing one of these live like the last video Eco posted would actually be one of the highlights of my life (besides family, children, etc..)  I guess I would have to travel to Germany to actually see on elive right?!?Awesome.Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"
