I know one of you Gentlemen will be able to identify this plane.  My wife just started a new job and the plane belongs to her boss.  He told her he flies with a group of old warbirds...  He told her that he would be happy to take me with him when he does! Smiley  What is this?

That is a Chinese Nanchang CJ6A, which does have russian roots in it's design lineage as the Yak 18 was revised and refined many times by the Chinese and resulted in the above model. You may see a very similar cosmetic to the Yak 52 as well, though they are rather different. Here is a link that outlines it a little bit: http://www.warbirdalley.com/cj6.htmIf you do get to go up in it you should have a blast! Do it! S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

It's a small world.....So Pepper went to Oshkosh (like he does every year) and brought home a ton of photos and was very excited about all the warbirds he saw.I of course, being the duty Luftwhiner over at TUSA, asked "Were there any German A/C?"He said, "Well, I saw one that I got a picture of and maybe you could help me identify it.  It was'nt like anything I'd ever seen..."He sent me this picture a few days ago.  Well, I knew it was'nt Fiesler, or Arado or anything (tail shape and tricycle) I knew the Luftwaffe ever had.  The JG53 Pika's insignia was also suspicious. To me it looked like a two-seat trainier, but not of WWII vintage.  The "kill" marks on the tail confirmed that this was an "imitation" of some kind. Having some idea of the myriad of world A/C that exist, I figured I might ask Eco some time this week.Well, low and behold, you beat me to it Rah SmileyThanks Eco.S~GunBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

See....You guys rock...  i knew it was some sort of trainer...even asked the wife if he mentioned a Yak....so I was on the right track. He told her that he flies with some other old warbirds...they get together at airshows, etc.  Said that he would gladly take me along to some...  I'm excited about the possibility of it all....She told him about my cockpit and all...and he couldn't believe that someone would go so far for simulation...  She said he liked to have died when she told him I have a throttle and rudders...lol.Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"

Heheh. . it's actually a Nanchang CJ6A. . . Based on the Yak 18, but with modified wing, tail, undercarriage, and powerplant. Some Yak 18s have the dihedral modification in the wing, and are often mistaken for the CJ6, but the quickest and easiest way to verify which they are is the vertical stabilizer. . . if it is rounded it's a Yak, if it's straight it's a Chinese Nanchang. Same thing with the Yak 52, it has a rounded tail, straight wings (usually) and the main landing gear don't fully retract, oh and the 52 has an MP14 radial that makes 360 hp (though the plane is really heavy so it's less than it it sounds). It doesn't help keeping it straight that there were many different mods to the Yak 18 line. Here are shots of the various types of Yak 18s:http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?aircraft_genericsearch=Yakovlev%20Yak-18&distinct_entry=trueS!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO

Eco,           I meant that this plane is based on a Yak-18 not a Yak-52.  I also think that the wife's boss' plane is of the Nanchang CJ5x variant.  I don't believe his is a 6...Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"
