For now I'm keeping this endeavor a secret outside of you guys. I want to make a few more of the courses, pilot briefing information, and layout photos first.  When I do announce it ideally we've already created a concept thats something cool  and well tested to put out there. In the mean time, I'd enjoy the company of anyone of you wishing to try the courses out along with me, and I could use your feedback as well. These are unique courses created by me, but using the same sort of concepts as the RedBull AirRace that most of you have heard of.

The first course in the series is Kurland, myself and Hwkmn have flown this course many times tonight and after a few revisions I'd say it's just about done (there is a track posted below). The following is what I have prepared so far:

IL-2 RedBullAirRace at Kurland

Welcome to IL-2RedBull AirRace!!
This unique form of racing features a race track that consists of a series of gates through which pilots must pass through in various orientations, and perform various aerobatic maneuvers in between them, all while racing against the clock!

********Kurland AirRace Course Description**********
G=Gate, so G1=Gate1, if the gate has multiple crossings it will be indicated, ie (2C)=Two back to back crossings for that gate.

Smoke On!
G1:  Race timing starts
¼ Cloverleaf loop to the left
G2: Upright
G3 Quadro (2C): loop with entry and exit within the two groups of pylons.
2/4 Vertical point rolls left then 2/4 right
Under the bridge
G4: Right wing low knife edge
¼ Cloverleaf loop to the right
G5: Upright
G6: Left knife edge
G7: Inverted
G8: Right knife edge
G9: Upright
Tailslide (to be penalty free the aircraft must slide backwards visibly)
G10 (2C):  Right knife edge, 360 degree turn to the right
½ snaproll to inverted
G11 Quadro:  Inverted
1+1/2 roll to upright
G13 (2C): Upright
½ Cuban-8
Bull’s Eye Touchdown
G14:  Finish Line

*****************
To see my view of the course download and watch this track with manual view control toggled downwards, for an overall sense of the maneuvers toggle this switch up to enable you to freely change views (be sure to see it from both views, it's pretty cool:

***********Race Rules and Regulations**************

Gate Crossings:
To count as a penalty-free gate crossing the pilot must pass through the gate no higher than the top of the stack, and in the pre-determined way, either upright, inverted, or knife edge.  Gates may be bi-directional, and may be used multiple times so pilots must use caution to fly the proper sequence.

Gate crossing orientations other than upright  are indicated with additional colored pylons as follows:
Red-Red=Inverted crossing
Red-Blue=Left wing low knife edge
Blue-Red=Right wing low knife edge

Aerobatic Figures:
To be a penalty free aerobatic figure the maneuver must be generally in accordance with competition aerobatic standards during the portion of the figure that contains the maneuver, in other words the figures must be on either horizontal, vertical, or 45 degree lines, looping figures should be as close to round as possible, rolls should be as close to the specified degree of roll, and point rolls/hesitation rolls should have rolls and pauses of equivalent duration and rate of roll throughout. Unlike competition aerobatics once the figure stops and starts the pilot may maneuver to position themselves as they see fit for the fastest line to the next gate. Aerobatic figures will not be judged beyond success or failure provided the figure is flown approximately correctly.

Bull's Eye Touchdown Points:
Touchdown with:
-at least one main wheel in the center ring on the bull's eye for a 3 second bonus
-at least one main wheel in the second ring for a 1 second reduction in race time
-touchdown with any wheel within the outer ring for  no penalty
-failure to touchdown within the outer ring will result in a 5 second penalty

Timing:
The timing is activated when the pilot crosses the start line and is stopped when he/she passes the finish line, pilots race one at a time, and will be awarded placings based on their course time minus any penalties.

Penalties:
Pilots incur penalties for incorrect gate crossings and for incorrect maneuvers. They also incur time penalties for starting their round in excess of the stipulated starting speed. These penalties are added to their times at the end of each round.

It is the pilot's responsibility to be familiar with the course layout and the proper execution of the required aerobatic maneuvers.

Incorrect Passing of a Gate:
A 3-second penalty is incurred when a pilot:
- passes a gate too high
- performs a knife edge (vertical) instead of level (horizontal) crossing and vice versa.
- performs a knife (vertical) crossing on the wrong side, for example: right wing low instead of left wing low.

Incorrect Aerobatic Figure:
A 3-second penalty is incurred when a pilot fails to perform an aerobatic figure correctly.

Omitted Figure:
20 second penalty

Touching a Gate: A penalty of death is usually incurred (the real one's deflate and cause no damage to the plane, but ours are brick, though we have refly of course).

Excessive Speed at Approach
A time penalty is incurred if a pilot passes the starting line at a speed above the maximum allowed.\n1-10 kph above maximum speed allowed at approach : 2-second penalty
More than 10 kph above maximum speed allowed at approach : 10-second penalty

This is one plane at a time racing, more would be next to impossible. if you see the track I included where ben is flying about 30 seconds behind me you will see how close we come a few times, there isn't much room, your on the edge of the envelope so you can't really maneuver to avoid anyone, and the complexity of the maneuvers makes maintaining visual near impossible.I've added a new feature to the map, and changed teh reverse 1/2 cuban to a regular half cuban, and using an invisible test runway to make the surface a little more touchdown friendly I've added a chalk target marker bull's eye to create a precision spot touch and go area towards the end, I'm still finalizing where that will go in this course, and will be hosting it tonight for a little while, the password to the room will simply be the letter b if anyone would like to join upS!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO
