The cool full cockpit Flight Simulators used to train pilots employ fresnel lenses to enlarge and add depth to the 2D image a monitor produces, as well as to allow the screen to be viewable without the monitor frame for installations such as a seamless multi-monitor viewing area. The ones that the IL-2 users are trying are the F550 for 19-21 inch monitors, and they seem to be really getting a kick out of it.

I've used a couple full flight deck/motion queuing flight simulators and the Fresnel lens certainly does add a realistic dimension to the screen, and can give you a large screen effect as well.

If I had known these were only 27 bucks I guess I might have one already.

I will sell my lense and stand for 6$ plus shipping. If you want the view from the rear view mirror of a mobile home. Forget it. Get stereo shutter glasses if you need 3D. Have you seen a cockpit in 3d? Well, you needn't. Depth of field vision is an evolved refinement limited to well under 500 meters. Beyond this, short range vision is ineffective in triangulating. Caviat; taxi on a crowded runway lends well to 3d. TX-Kingsnake

Back in the original IL2 I had some shutter glasses...  Man...they worked awesome!  I could tell where the glass was and was as if I was looking through the glass off into the distance outside the cockpit.  Unfortunately when FB came out...the shutter glasses quit working.  I don't know if it's somthing that Oleg and crew did but never could get them to work properly again after many failed attempts.  If they would work, I would use them...they were worth their weight in gold when they did.Regards,TX-Rahman"BLACK 4"
