FINALLY!

Achieved my first succesfull mission in BS!  Thanks Kingsnake!

Take-off, auto-route to waypoint, hover, HMS desig, Turn-to-target and BLAMMO! BLAMMO! BLAMMO! BLAMMO! - took out 7 tanks and 4 trucks.

Returned and remember to Auto-hover over the pad (fixed wing runway is fur sissy-boys)) and brought it down so gently that I could have drunk a beer from an open container without spillage!

Thanks King and Eco for all the help and patience - I'm ready for the next thing...

Black 2 out

S~

Good to hear it Gunny!!There is no doubt that BlackShark will keep the learning curve pressure on for a while - and for that very reason, I think it will continue to be an awesome sim for a long time! On the other hand, I can also see why they included a "game" mode - of course I have no idea what that is like. . .but it was probably a good idea since sometimes you want the IL-2 experience - press I and go!!!Only one thing - autohover will disengage at low altitudes, so standard AP modes are best since they will not change right as you near the ground.I know the producers notes videos I posted suggest using autohover, but apparently that, along with calling RPMs in thousands instead of percent, were both mistakes. The latter isn't a big deal, but as the sim was finalized, apparently the realism of the autohover system increased, to incorporate the real world attribute that auto-hover shuts down when near the ground.I for one use Flight director mode, but I'm a control freak I guess. This is great info - I'll incorporate.  So - how's this:1) establish autohover above desired point of landing (think landing-pad for this example)2) enable flight director mode at 50 meters (?)3) disable auto-hover4) bring it on down at very low VSI (1 click)OK?ThanksGunnyBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

Only figured out how to install - got that one on LockOn Files.  Since you mention it, now that we all have modman which will manage skin installations for us, it's much easier. Also easier to distribute to future new members :)S~GunnyBlack 2 TX Flight Leader

Well, the closest thing to autohovering it all the way down is just disabling auto hover, but leaving the K/T/H buttons pressed . . .now that we have the english cockpit, that's pitch, bank and headingflight director is fully manual - so it won't be nearly as stable. I don't drop straight down to touchdown though, instead approaching from a shallow angle, and then bring it to a stop a foot or two up, then a little nudge less collective and down it comes. There are a few reasons why flying a more conventional approach is important:1) In order to avoid settling with power/vortex ring you must descend at no more than 1m/s while in a stationary hover.2) You can't see straight down! The only way to see where you are going is via external views, and that only works if externals are enabled, and of course isn't a realistic means of approach. These things mean you either must take an extended time trying to keep position over the landing area, that you can't see, all the while another chopper may not see you dropping in from overhead as they approach, and while running the risk that a momentary increase in descent rate might push you into a vortex ring state at an altitude too low to recover. . .Flying a more fixed wing like approach that is stabilized on a similar glide slope will allow you to see where you are going, for others to see you more easily, and minimizing any time descending in a hover since your approach should terminate at a low altitude, right over the landing area, at only a few feet, at which point you then should just manually stabilize while descending those last few feet.S!TX-EcoDragonBlack 1TX-Squadron XO
