However, Lemon, =FB=Vall ("call911"), SAS and others on the ROF TS were having their way with me. -- LOL  Embarrassed

...need to even the odds a bit if anyone is around.  Huh

I could get kills and all, but I couldn't survive all of them.  Tongue

Gunny if you want to have a great OS that is easy to find get Server 2003 x32 or x64 both are a light year ahead of XP and regular vista.
If you have a friend that can give it to you. Looks like XP, smell like XP but ain't XP.. it's just better ... like XP on steroides...
memory/CPU / Network bandwith managements are much much better
Also Server-2003 get you better FPS in Games.
I have to run XP in the other machine due to Il2 mods stuff  ONLY.. but if i do not touch much Il2 no more i will junk this XP ASAP and reload the x64 WS-2003..

Now WS-2003 is newer than XP.
PS: I'm already disappointed by Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Thanks Gozr - that info is good to know.

For the short term, when I get a good fill of server flying - I'll probably load Vista back on for beta testing.  I'm one of the only folks that can do FPS testing with both systems on the same hardware.

Other than the few FPS I'd pick up from BS - I see no reason to use it as my primary OS.

Thanks again,

Gunny

Vista is ok if you run it with 30 processes max if you have more than that it's mean that you didn't made it run right... very annoying to caster an OS but it make it much better.. And junk all the other crap for media stuff i'm afraid that Windows 7 is the same way a load of crap imo. You like XP because it's pretty much down on processes already.. witch is better.
I was testing all OS. On top W7 look like crap like an OS for mentals with huge icons and a real bad setup.. ho man i'm sooo mad about that . They really have to look into the new OS X for gad sake.

Server 2003 is what XP should of been after minor tweaks to make it run as a workstation. But running XP vanilla at the moment is ok i understand and run fine.

I'm with Gunny. I switched back to XP. The whole ordeal sounds like a Mac advert. With the Mac you get a system where everything is designed to work together. Which I add, is why I think they make great notebooks, great phones, great music players. Customizing a Mac desktop can arguably be done but it is more a matter of picking out Mac parts to put in a Mac but that is changing now. I like to put things together to avoid the fees, and the Mac has a lot of fees to assemble and write all the software. The software is another big part of the cost and when people compare them to a Win machine they forget to include the software in the comparison. You often hear or see in commercials a side by side comparison where the Win machine is far less for comparable physics performance. Go through the hassle of replacing a hardware part in a notebook that is proprietary and you might as well get a Mac, since you can't buy a competing part anyway. For a desktop machine to run a combat flight stimulator the only option for now is the Win machine.

Back to the topic, I have been hosting a little.

There is no Mac anymore .. they are "PC"'s running OS X this days..  Smiley ..make sure you are running SP3 on XP/ and try running at most 19 to 20 max processes.. also make sure to tune down those Task updates etc.. same with Vista  those are killer. you could be surprised how better things run..
