The i7 920 is finally below $200 - http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0302727&utm_source=mcol&utm_medium=leader_bnr&utm_campaign=hmpg_intel_i7920

$89 cheaper than what I paid 3 months ago. That's enough to get a decent RAM kit. The only other cost would be the X58 mobo.

Better grab one before they're gone and you're stuck with the i5.

Buy a small quantity i 'll go there i make sure to get ALL DO stepping and get a free chip ... deal ?  Smiley

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130

This is the most cost effective upgrade for me at this time - although I probably could find a better price.

For me the I7 comes with:

+1 new Motherboard
+1 new RAM
+1 processor,

Core 2 Quad 3.0Ghz is just the cost of the processor - and I should be able to OC 3.8 - 3.9 - who knows.....

All the I7 mobo's that I would want take the package over $500 with everything.

Thanks

Yeas agree but minor OC with SLI capability doesn't need 500 $ even this great MIcro board from EVGA X58 2x 16 is great at 199 $ but there are many that are great for 200 to 280 $

The Q9650 is a great cheaper way IF you have already the hardware til i9 or what ever name teh new things will have.

GTX 280
WD 1 TB SATA
RAPTOR 300 GB
PCI-E Sound Blaster XFI
and I think that's it - everything else is USB...

You see It's basic you wont need a uber mother for that .. The only extra i advice that you need it's an extra PICE x16 for SLI  that about it..a 230 $ would do plenty, Also you are not the type to go sub-zero overclocking so really a 500 $ is overkill..
