How nutty is computer retail right now?

Well, about two months ago most of you know I purchased a Q9650, not on sale at New Egg.  For most of this year the price on that chip never deviated.  $319 in January, $319 in June and when I bought mine in early September it was $319.00 with a Free "Bunny Person".

I noticed today that you don't get the free Bunny Person figure and the cost is $329.00

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130

At this rate they'll be over $400.00 by the end of the year.

Go figure...

Seems normal to me, they now have the I7 I5 bla bla, and this CPU is old news now, and most likely out of production.

It's cost will probably continue to climb, while retailers try and glean the most they can out of folks wanting to make the rigs they have top out.

Once all the sales drop on them, whats left in stock if any, will practically be given away.

Agreed.  I've never seen a product like this though but then does represent the transitional point between I7 and LGA775.

Re-organized the server Q9550 and installed my new polished custom made heatsink with a new server OS.. and a new DVD burner, I'll be able to push it this time to test.

Well i'm at 4050 Ghz on Q9550 and low v, Very impressive chip too. So going with a Q9650 @ 4050 Ghz or less is unnecessary since you can get the same just half the price.. and i did say that for quite some time now.. So  for the guys that have a E8400/E8500 and don't want to spend much for a Quad well the Q9550 is killer.!

Well The Q9550 E0 yes suppose to since they are a late bunch from Microcenter easy for them to check this, It's pretty safe to go to 4050 Ghz and above you need a motherboard that can go higher Bus speed like 1880 Mhz plus.

Well, that's good then.  If I were buying now I'd at least try one of those processors.  Good savings.

If you did not realize - I started this thread as a joke really Smiley

You know, we spend far too much energy trying to convince each other of the "best" savings....  when in fact, when you are at the end of your life and look back - it's really going to be about the "time" and not the "money"..

Q9550 it is - if you can get the Microcenter or equiv batches....
