Wink a complete redesign from the F16 coogar and better .
Copied from the US airforce, Everything is smooth, the throttle is from the A10.
They very like it.

Well all i can say is that is probably the ONLY stick that i wish to test in the market ( beside Gunny's modded Coogar Wink  ) I would like to test the center point because to me it's always what was teh problem with ALL sticks.
If i had the money i would be sooo tempted on this one.

HOTAS Warthog "Feel"

SimHQ's preview article was short on details about how the HOTAS Warthog felt to use. My initial impressions were very favorable; I have a Cougar modded with NXT gimbals and I think that the HOTAS Warthog stock gimbals feel even better. The HOTAS Warthog throttle feels very nice, too, and has a detent system that is worlds better than the Cougar's. However, for a true comparison SimHQ needs more time with the controller and the ability to do side-by-side A/B testing. When we review the HOTAS Warthog we will publish more thoughts on how the HOTAS feels.


So, about $450 for what cost me at one time $700.00 - When a U2Nxt user tells you something like this - LISTEN!


Available at about the same time as STORM OF WAR!!!!   Save ur pennies.

It's a done deal for me, barring any surprises at release.

So, other details that you can see in the video.  The little allen screw piece that you see him inserting at the end of the video, defeats the need to "pull up" the throttle handles to achieve 100% (in jets it's for afterburner) or maximum physcial throttle travel.  So cool, as I want this for prop sim flying.

In the Cougar, there are click detents for these functions, which I removed from mine (few screws) on the 2nd day I had my Cougar.

Few other things of note.  The control software is a complete replacement for my wonderful "Foxy" programming software.  It syncronizes and controls both Cougars and Warthog's.

Why is this important?

I'll tell you in the next post - I'm approaching our forums "BOUNCE" point.

Two neat features that I can see on the Warthog are:

1. a thicker Hat 4 switch - which is higher up on the joystick.  This will give a little better control, but more importantly it's closer to the Thumb - so you don't have to stretch as far.  The Hat 4 switch is on the left side of the joystick (looking from the back/user view) about halfway down the stick on the Cougar and 1/3 down the stick on the Warthog.

2. A completly redesigned S4 actuator.  It's thicker and wider with a neat little knurl at the end.  Most users program this stick for either Push to talk, or for all axis TRIM.

I'm very very impressed with the design of the new T.A.R.G.E.T software.  This is the replacement for FOXY (I love Foxy as most of you know, and am skilled at the programming language).

TARGET is compatible with many Thrustmaster devices, including the Cougar - and any rudder pedals attached to it.  Unfortunatley, the Warthog has no built in rudder interface.  It's understandable in that this interface in the Cougar is a gameport interface, very old now, and unsupportable.  Nevertheless, this is why SIMPED for example, still builds pedals with the gameport, so that Cougar users can connect the rudder pedals directly to the Cougar.

Why is that so important?  So that I can have real trim in game, thought the stick.  In Il2, ROF and Blackshark, I can trim - and do particularly for long transits.

Eco taught me about real world trimming when we were playing with Blackshark.  Since that time I have programeed my setup to be able to "remember" the combinatorial position of rudder, aileron and elevator axis positions with my S4 button.

To trime, I place the controls in the manner that causes the ball to center, depresss and hold S4, recenter the controls and viola!  I'm trimmmed.  If I depress the little gray shift button along with S4 the trim resets back to default.

So, I'm about 98% sure that I'll purchase the following:

1. Warthog
2. New F16 style Gameport Simpeds

I have two cougar systems (spare because I was afraid they'd quit making them and got one cheap).  So, I'll take the non-U2NXT version (stock) - plug in my simpeds to JUST the cougar base (hide it behind my desk) - plugging it into a USB port.

The warthog will have it's connection via USB to my computer.  Using the new TARGET software, I can build upon the same Foxy scripts I have now, and enjoy the benefits of the new system - WHILE keeping my trim functionality with my current or new gameport SIMPEDS.

It's a great world all of a sudden.

What am I going to do with my U2NXT?  Well, it's going in one of my guest bedrooms - along with my other Q9550 computer that I originally intended to use as our server.  I'm out of the server business completely.  Enough good servers exist and I WANT TO FLY AND FIGHT - not have a second job!

OH! Don't forget the new CH military grade A-10C controllers as well. If history hold any merit, it'll be better than the Warthog too.  Wink

I don't know for sure TB, but that metal CH throttle plate is a lot different that the Hawg.

The Hawg has those big meaty switches - looks like TM has figured out how to fully harden the New Cougar.

Doesn't patch 4.10 come out with independent throttle joystick interface? 

That's going to be cool when it gets out.  Sure wish they would make a left handed model for you.
