Ok WTF, I tried to start a 109 and when I hit the Ignition button the plane kept jumping into the air until it killed itself.  So screw that I says and went to the Hurricane, well it did the same thing and then flipped end over end.  I Googled the forums came up with nothing except for some starting procedures which I can’t seem to do because my mouse won’t move the switches in the cockpit?   A manual would be a handy thing to have right about now.

You can't use the levers/switches on controls if you don't have high levels of difficulty set.  For example - if you have the check box for Complex Engine Management checked but the "Engine Temperature Effects" is not checked, you won't be able to actuate the water or oil radiator controls.

If you dont' have Complex Engine Management or Engine Temperature Effects checked then there's a whole lot more levers and buttons that won't work for your mouse.

Here's some videos that will help (I used them)

Jimbo is really good at these - what I used to get off the ground, on the first go...

Hurricane

Spitfire

109 - by Tarq
BF109 E3 CEM start up

G.50 - little different Smiley  - by Jimbo

Br.20

Ju87
il2- Cliffs Of Dover Stuka Startup

Ju88
il2- Cliffs Of Dover JU88 Startup

He111
il2-Cliffs Of Dover-he111-Startup

Blenheim
il2 - Cliffs Of Dover-Blenheimiv-startup

Hopefully this helps - let me know if it doesn't, ok?

Well this is friggin weird.   When I spawn in it appears that may gear is up so when I start my engines my prop blades actually pull me around in a circle until they either flip the plane or break the prop.  Same results on two servers including the Syndicate.

Also it appears that the mouse clicks do activate cockpit buttons but there is no visual change to any buttons or levers.  This crap ain't in the Manual they leaked.  I don't even get visuals of gear or flap changes.  I am set with CEM with everthing checked for full realism.

Chukar had a very interesting problem.   To fix it we ended up:

1. going to Steam "Library" - right mouse clicking "Il-2 Sturmovik:Cliffs of Dover" and selecting properties.

2. After the properties window comes up - then select the tab "LOCAL FILES"

3. Finally select "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE..."

Chukar found that he was missing a file - which the Steam routine replaced and then "presto" - it all worked.

We had a few enjoyable flights in Hurricanes on the Syndicate Server.

I wasted 2hr's last night trying to get that stupid Blenheim off the ground only to realize that its bugged so don't waste your time trying.  I know there a still a lot of bugs in it but not being able to take off in one aircraft is really disappointing.

Question though on Carburetor Heat applications.  Correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was only used as an anti-icing measure.  But in the game all the start up procedures seem to start with carb heat to max?

Don't know why that is Chukar.  I saw it too.  Maybe it has a dual function - like "Choke" also.

I'll try to get the Blenhiem up tonight - I think I have once before - but I may be wrong.

No worries on the Blenheim, Gunny.   I looked at the forums later and found where a few guys did get them off the ground but it’s more like reaching the 12th level of some quest than a flight sim.   I am sure they will correct it with a patch some day.   It’s just frustrating poking around in a new game with no real manual where you can’t tell if you’re doing something wrong or is it another bug.  I just hate wasting time like that.

Yeah, it kinda sucks.

On the other hand, if I think back to Il2 and RoF - they didn't come with any more instructions, as I remember.

In fact, I think most of the things I learned, I learned from 'the forums' or from fellow pilots.
