Hi All,
Had an interesting night last night flying with the Zen master for awhile. We had some good rounds I think ,despite the lack of voice comms as , it was too choppy last night.
After awhile I quit the game did a few things , and relaunched to find that the game had gone corrupt again ! I had just reinstalled yesterday , including all updates , adding skins , regiments , etc. I finally got fed up. Combed the forum pages on the IL2 site and finally found a similar issue with someone else. This seems to happen to me once every 4 days to a week. Someone once had told me to backup the conf.ini file and one other file. I hadnt done so since talking with him. Anyway , by corrupt , I mean that , the setup loses its settings and even after resetting them , once I get into the game I cant ever escape out !!!!!
The views also get restricted. The trick in fixing this ends up being that you have to open up the conf.ini file and add back the settings "[HotKey gui]" and "Escape=activate" , in that order. Sort of being a new pc user (old mac guy) , I had no idea to look for this , and/or how to change it , so everytime it went "corrupt" , I reinstalled the entire game, all the updates,  dumped the skins in there etc. What A Pain !!!
Thank god for help forums and this fix , as this will save me LOTS of heartaches and headaches. Thought Id share the issue in here in case anyone here ran into the same issue.

:-)

Shadow,I saw this same issue several months back, and what solved my problems was finally a reinstallation of the game, and adding the patches in again.  I found that if I loaded the game, installed the 1.1 patch (~75mb) then the 1.2 patch (35mb) that everything worked normally from there.  I saw the same view lockups, and player join/killed messages were not present.  After the reinstall and proper patch version and order, things went back to normal.  You might try that and double check exactly what patches you are using.  I did discover I was using the wrong patch for the first update.TX-Deck out.

Shadow, I'm glad you figured out the IL2 problem, now we need to get you on stable GV comms. The situation is not working very well, I am almost completely unable to communicate with you, which is no way to enter a squad. We are missing out on what makes TX so great, which is the comms that allow our teamwork to succeed. Gentlemen:Put your heads together and lets get his GV problem fixed. Shadow, please document all of your GV settings as well as any network related issues you may be having. Post that information here.I would like to know at least:GV version (Retail or shareware?)GV Box hooked up?GV packet settings (modem 3.2k/LAN32k etc)Internet connection type at your residenceDirectX version installed on PCIL2 sound settingsTX Squadron I would like to get this resolved as rapidly as possible. Lets pull it together and make it happen.TX-ZenBlack 6TX Squadron CO

S~  I bought the full version of GV with the gamebox just a couple months ago. I can look up the version when I get home. Normally the GV works well enough to communicate decently. Last night it was really bad, and Im sure it just had to do with the amount of traffic online around here and on the servers last night. I finally gave up on voice altogether for the night and flew without comms. My connect is a standard cable connection. I get average 100kb per sec downloads with it. The cable comes directly from the box outside to my pc with no splitters and has already been boosted by the cable company. My connect in GV is set to cable. I just recently went to Direct X 9 from 8.1 , but since then have had some good comms days for sure. Im sure there will be good and bad days to use it. The only other thing I can think of that woud get in the way , may be my router(smc barricade) , which has been a good one , but maybe theres a port I havent set to optimize GV. I set up some of the ports for gaming already based on MSN and IL2 , but I dont think I set anything for GV. Let me know if theres a port I should open up for that. Other than last night , Ive been pretty set with GV working well enough for the most part all the time though.Well , let me know if you all come up with anything at all and Ill try it.Thanks,S~"Shadow"  Black4
