Hi,

Can I use 2 sticks of 512MB PC@PC2700 and 1 stick of 512MB PC2100 on this SY-P4X400 mobo.
I need to have 1.5 gig of memory.

Would appreciate if anybody give any info on this.

Thanks.

Prowler,              I'd first look to the manufacturer of the system board for this information.                In my opinion I would say that you should be able to accomplish this with one snag.  You will have to run your memory clock at the setting for PC2100 ram.  So you will effectivly be losing vroom because of the PC2700 memory running at a PC2100 clock speed.  Ram is cheap now days....buy another stick of PC2700 512MB.B~TX-Rahman"BLUE 2"

Thanks so much TX-Rahman,I tried to contact the manufacturer Soyo through their web page inquiry form but have not got any response.I really wanted to buy 3 sticks of 512MB PC2700 but there is a note in the memory details for the motherboard NOTE:1. Only 2 banks of PC2700, and PC3200 is supported, this means you can only place two(2) DDR333(PC2700), or DDR400(PC3200) modules on this board. this board does, however; support three(3) DDDR266(PC2100) memory modules2. if two modules(PC3200, or PC2700) are being used on this board. Make sure to place one module on DDR socket #2, and one on DDR socket #3.3. If only one(1) memory module is being used on the board, you can place the module on either one of the memory sockets. So I was not sure if I can use 3 sticks of PC2700 on the motherboard, it says it supports 3GB memory, but not what speed. Can you make out from the note what memory combination is supported. Thanks a lot,

Prowler,               It is safe to clock memory at a slower speed just not higher.

This supports my thoughts that you should be able to "down" clock or run you ram at a slower speed then it's rated for.  Most boards that support the faster DDR ram will only support one or two sticks at that higher speed.  If you add more ram it's a nil point because you have to slow the ram down.  I only bought PC3000 ram for my system because of the same reason.  The PC3200 was pricey in the size I wanted....the PC3000 ram at the time was cheaper to buy 2, which I did.Regards,TX-RahmanBLUE 2
