AS MANFORD POSTED IN NEWS:
Ladies & Gents,

At this time our beloved TX-OC3 server is DOA. I have received notification from our host that the unit will power on, but will not make it past the BIOS post, so it is effectively out of commision at this time. We have plans for the construction of a new and higher performance server to take it's place and those plans are currently under way.

And now the bad news....

As of late last week, we have been informed by our host that the OC3 connection will no longer be available to us in our current arrangement. (the dude is moving out of the apartment complex with the connection) TX is currently looking for a new host, and with a little luck, we'll be back up and running at a new home, with a new server, sometime in the near future.

Thank you to all the pilots who have supported our efforts thus far, and we hope to see you again online in our friendly TX skies as soon as possible.

Peeps,            IN response to the above message:  I have been searching for a place to house our new server.  The past 2 weeks I have been looking for a data center to colocate it in.  Let's just say that it's definately not cheap.  We will not be getting off as easy as we were with the OC3 connection (free)....              In the coming days I will be posting more information on what I have found.  It looks like we will have to ship the new server off to another state to get decent rates.  (When I say decent...the cheapest I have found so far is around $70 a month.)  I will be calling these hosting centers very soon to weed out the unattractive deals.  I will post my findings here.  We may have to ask for member contributions to fund the hosting of the new box in a data center.  I will post more information on that in the private members area.             Regarding the current server:  It's dead.  From what the host described to me...sounds like the hotswappable power supply is dead.               Regarding the new server:  I have put off getting it all together in liew of finding out what hosting we will have going forward.  We may have to buy a 1U rack chassis for the new mobo and proc.  Anything more than a 1u space in a data center is alot more expensive.  Manford has already located a reasonable priced 1U case....  More on all this soon.B~TX-Rahman"BLUE 2"

Ugh! Bad news indeed. If you need any assistance, I rent a quarter rack in a data center, and may be able to help with your search, in terms of pricing and expectations. I also have a spare 1U server box if your interested. I doubt it will get any use from me as I have moved to 2U's. I would like to give fair warning on the 1U... unless you go with a pentium chip, you may be in trouble. The Athalon chips run much hotter, and even though a 1U heat-sink/fan says it works for Athalon XP chip's, well it doesn't. I have 3 fried chips to prove it. I do have one 1U box in the data center which is a Pentium 1ghz that I use for the web server and app host (TeamSpeak etc.). You can probably go faster (hotter) with a Pentium and be ok though... and with enough ram it would probably fix a lack in desired processor speed. And, it would be much less expensive.Anyway, I wish you luck, and let me know if I can help,GR142-Sammie

UUghh, Bad news indeed. It is a sad day for TX.I tend to agree with Sammie there. I think the P4 is the best bet for processors in this type unit. I think its time we did setup a paypal account for the TX server.? :-)S~Cya up there...TX-ShadowWhite 3

Rasta,             We are exploring many possibilities but welcome any and all "deals" we may get through the community.  Curious as to the specifics of the outbound bandwidth, the allowed transfer per month in gigabytes and of course the costs. B~TX-Rahman"BLUE 2"

I'll see what he can get course that is dedicated bandwith not shared so it isnt really too bad a price but what is your bandwidth requirements...  lol I know the more the better but most times I can host 15-16 players with minimal lag (although it does lag sometimes when i get more than a couple dial up guys in) on a 768K synchronous dsl line (lol which costs me 150 a month)
