Hello all ! (S) and thanks for the welcome gunny. I liked some of your comments on the Rise Of Flight forum so that brought me here. I have ROF, and used to fly janes fighter anthology and was in a virtual navy outfit, and owned a long line of similar games (Wings of Glory was my fav ww1 sim from the old school) European air war, and IL2 is fun. I almost bought OFF but opted for ROF. I like all flight sims, but also play EVE online and like some FPS and role playing mixtures. Arma2 is a infantry simulator that's interesting as well.  Smiley When I originally joined it was to say I agreed with a comment you made on the ROF forum but it took a bit to get me in here so I can't remember what it was now.  Smiley  heheh.  Anyways, I plan on playing ROF online soon, so maybe I'll see ya there, or you can email me if you want to hook up or something. Always good to have friends to fly with  Smiley
Best Regards,
Sarge

(image not showing on forum pm verification for me (maybe firefox ?) and had trouble hearing it in the audio, so I decided to introduce myself here. Hope that's ok.)

That's great Sarge!

Welcome and great to see you.  Most of us at this time are fairly deep into ROF, however our members run the gamut of simulation/gaming interests.  Our origin is the Il2 series of flight simulations - which due to ROF beta testing duties, I'm sad to say I personally have not had the chance to put on my hard drive in the last six months or so.

Firefox might be the issue - however - I'm not sure at this time.  Perhaps one of our fine folks who knows more than me (that would in fact be just about every other member), will come along and help.

So good to see you - stick around and stay intouch!  Even better - stop by and say hello on our TeamSpeak at 69.56.198.2:8767....

Welcome Sarge! Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the registration issues - we've recently gone to a new method, perhaps it doesn't like firefox. . .we'll take a look.

As Gunslinger has mentioned, we have a dedicated public teamspeak server where you can generally find us during the evenings (most of us are GMT-8 to GMT-5). If we are testing beta versions of the sim we might be in a private channel there, but we'll also usually do some flying in the retail version even on testing nights, so please don't hesitate to join us. . .online flying is always a lot more fun with some friends!

Thanks guys. I'll have to check team speak out again. I mostly use ventrillo for Eve online and fps shooters, but I have plenty of hdd space so it shouldn't be a prob. I see the server info in the forum now, so I'll try to hook up with you guys. I've got plenty of game and os beta testing experience, so if anybody needs any help, let me know. That's fun stuff. Thinking of this reminded me of some performance tests or something you were doing. I made this while waiting for the forum hookup. please excuse me if I'm posting out of topic by doing this, as I mean no disrespect.
Here's the link to a photo of a screenshot of Taskmanager while running ROF. http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg223/bryanz831/runningRoFFulldetail2x2x.jpg
If there anything you want me to run to test anything on this hardware, let me know. Smiley

Sarge, where you having the registration issues within the last week or so? We did an overhaul to the image verification software a couple days ago. I just tried to register with IE8, Firefox, and Google Chrome and the images worked. . .but a week ago they didn't. If you were having trouble with this today, then we need to keep looking into this.

Thanks for the RoF taskmanager shot on your QuadCore. What mission were you running there?

What would be great would be for you to try this stress test, and post the taskmanager screenshot, along with your computer hardware specs, as well as operating system in the following thread: http://www.txsquadron.com/forum/index.php?topic=2954.0

hey Eco, No real registration issues, just never got a notice in my email. I just came back and tried to log on.  Cheesy  I couldn't see any personal message verification image when I tried to PM Gunny earlier. all I could do was listen to it.

I can't remember what mish I was running for sure when I took the screenshot. I think it was a career mish.. the second one using the Pfalz I think. I'll try to run the one you were talking about later when I have a chance to look at the requirements.

Ahh. . .thanks, I've removed the code requirement for the PM system since we have a good enough anti-bot registration system - thanks for the info!

As far as the stress test, it's no big deal at this point. . .if you are curious about it, go for it! If not, then don't worry about it. We've gotten a good number of reports on it already, and your screenshot shows good usage across the cores.

One thing that I think is an issue worth looking at in RoF is why QuadCore CPUs will get to unplayable fps before reaching 100% CPU usage.  If you do run the stress test, let us know what fps you were averaging too.

Hey 1stSarge, welcome aboard. Sorry I wasn't very "welcoming" last night. I had a few other things going on at the same time trying to do some beta stuff and do some catchup reading in the myriad forums.

Nonetheless...always good to see a friendy face in the sky.

no prob thunderbolt. Thanks for the welcome. You guys seemed on a mission. It's ok.  Smiley Was good to see you guys fly and do so well. I need a new joystick and the track IR I think if I want to try to be any kind of competitive flying against humans. Using the pov hat on my joystick to spot planes while twisting the stick for rudder and then trying to refocus and shoot is pretty crazy, let alone without not being able to set sensitivities in the game, so I'm just trying to have fun best I can for now. I can hardly believe they don't have any sensitivity settings at all on the controls for joysticks. lol. Being a flight sim, I thought that was supposed to be pretty standard equipment. Guess not in Russia?      Smiley

Yeah - there is a lot of discussion on the lack of curves, and the way in which RoF handles inputs.

TX Squadron recently helped to translate the issues that the lead engineer is working to solve: http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2564

Can't say enough positive things about TrackIR either. I've used it since the old, original v1 and, at this point, just can't imagine flying without one. I've done the leapfrog thing since then and have gotten a v3 Pro and now a v5. The lack of curve settings for your joystick is one thing, but you can still adjust your own input through more delicate stick control, but a hat-switch just doesn't compare to the ease and immersion of TrackIR.

My 2 cents Sarge:

You might keep your joystick for a while - you'll eventually get used to it...  and instead get:

1) rudder pedals
2) TrackIR

Even better - get a joystick that's integrated with your rudder pedals - CH Pro is one: so that you can program a Trim function which remembers Pitch, Yaw and Roll input (or elevator, rudder and aileron position).  This is more money, however...

Welcome Sarge.

I'm an old Track IR guy too, Still using TIR3pro, but am realizing with ROF the narrower field of view is causing me some loss of signal.

In IL@ I never have to move my head side to side, like I do in ROF and I'm actually moving out side the range of the IR camera.

Sort of irritating, I've messed with my profile and speed things up, going more aggressive, but I still manage to move too far.

I'll deal with it, I'm in no position to be replacing a functioning piece of equipment.

There are other avenues though. You can build one now days, and from what I here, its just as good.

Here is an excellent thread on it, located elsewhere, and with a group of guys I also spend time with. Most of them are from the UK or nearby places.
