As most of you are aware of. Gosh, I'd like to know when it will be ready. When its damn well ready thats when but still. Oh I'm guessing that because it has been so long in the waiting it will run fantastically well. But really who knows at this point. I am wondering if I might be getting to be over the hill in gamer years and soon I might just want to fly for real and this all might fade into a previous hobby. Maybe... but the rest of you are already at the bottom of the other side of the hill  Tongue

Thanks,

The images aren't showing up  - however I followed the Forum links.

Not too long now, I'd guess.  I'm not making any plans until release, but I'm sure I'll reassess all hobbies when this shows up.  I have been following the Friday updates for maybe a year now.

You must be talking about the radio antenna on the spit.

I noticed that too Gozr.

Many, if not all of the screensnaps are at 2XAA max.  That's not making me feel "warm and fuzzy" about hardware necessary.

It's not like we haven't been down this road before though.  Look at ROF and Il2 in the beginning...

That's not making me feel "warm and fuzzy" about hardware necessary.

IL2 did not require a gaming rig in the beginning and reached a high level of participation for a flight sim. FSX & Blackshark required gaming rigs so you couldn't just pick it up off the shelf. Often it required a visit to another store to meet hardware requirements. But you guys have been in it for so long that your concerns are not about a level of participation as much as it is about a return on investment. Imagine if we were driving, Gunny would pass by in a lifted suspension, monster truck wheels, long horns on the front and a Texas flag. What I am eluding to is that I suspect this long development period must have some older techniques in the product and might run really well. It could run faster with older technology because the newer machines can handle it faster. Or so I am guessing because we have had a long time to speculate. Newer operating systems and newer programs take up more overhead in the background so its not always a scaled level of performance at each upgrade.

I hope that your suspiscion is correct.

One thing I do know, if ROF and what I've seen of LOMAC series had the graphics and terrain system of Wings of Prey - I believe they would run much more efficiently.

Having a long development timeline - like Oleg has had, and considering his past products - it's not unreasonable to expect that SOW will run on less older rigs, pleasantly.  Wings of Prey really looks great in many areas, and loads up faster than just about any sim product I've tried.  So if they can do it, I know he can too.

Great post,

S!
